Obama back above 50 percent approval rating

Dec. 1, 2009

5 p.m. EST

As President Obama prepares for his address at West Point this evening, his Real Clear Politics job approval rating stands at 50.3 percent. The disapproval rating stands at 43.7 percent.

The president faces enormous stakes as he lays out his administration’s policy in Afghanistan, and how well that policy is received will be reflected in upcoming opinion polls. The Punditty Project will provide periodic updates on the RCP poll as events warrant.

TPP expects a gain in approval for the president in the immediate aftermath of the West Point speech. President Obama faces enormous challenges in cleaning up the irresponsible mess left by his predecessor, especially in light of politically motivated right-wing smears. That more than half the country still stands with him in spite of all the dirt being hurled his way is a testament to his power to inspire and slowly but surely deliver the change Americans voted for in 2008.
