It is alarming to me and my readers that TCI Journal continues to purport to speak for the "people" of Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean. Why anyone would want to be associated with the weblog that choses daily to malign Turks and Caicos and ruin the reputations of anyone in its way, is beyond my comprehension. How can more than one person go along with their acts?
The bottom line is that Turks and Caicos has lost its right to self government and self determination because of TCI Journal's accusations. Is that strange to anyone other than me? What is behind TCI Journal's power and influence to orchestrate such a feat. Could the UK have set this up with TCI Journal or are they taking advantage of TCI Journal's modicum of momentum fueled by accusations by a disgruntled opposition political party?
The UK invaded Turks and Caicos and took its people's government in August. And, if the UK or anyone else tries to say it was not an invasion or a take over, they can simply refer to the fact that UK war ships were surrounding the islands preceding UK's installation. What other definition is there for invasion?
In America, they have commentators as divisive as Glenn Beck to rant and rave about stupid political points and accusations of corruption, including that Barack Obama is a racist, a muslim, not born in America, etc. In Turks and Caicos, they have TCI Journal. However, the distinguishing factor is that TCI Journal does not simply comment about political opinions, it "acts" on political agendas and it does so using the facade of having the "people" behind it.
Behind the caustic website is a political opposition party and disgruntled developer who finances TCI Journal and Shaun Malcolm. Malcolm has not "worked" in years, although he is quite busy with the TCI Journal "volunteering" (yeah right, how does he pay his bills for his family and his other family out of wedlock?). Of course, we all know that TCI Journal is made up of a handful of people who bully their way through their agenda. At least Glenn Beck has a real following.
TCI Journal has acted on behalf of the people consistently since early 2008. It writes letters to the UK parliament and the Queen on behalf of the "people" of Turks and Caicos. It called upon the UK government to abolish self determination on behalf of the "people" of Turks and Caicos. It consults regularly with UK prosecutor Helen Garlick giving so-called tips and information for prosecutions. There are MANY people who are aware that Shaun Malcolm and his friends at TCI Journal are proven liars and then some. Why the UK would make a conscience choice to affiliate with or listen to Shaun Malcolm and friends is quite interesting and worthy of investigation itself.
Just as recently as today, the TCI Journal is calling for the resume of Brian Hogan on behalf of the "people". Hogan is the man who is intended to run the health care program proposed for Turks and Caicos. I am sure that Brian Hogan is in a big hurry to get that resume over to TCI Journal so that fake journalist Malcolm can "substantiate" Hogan's qualifications. Yeah right. TCI Journal has an agenda against Brian Hogan and seeks to publicly persecute him. I don't know the man, Hogan, but I think if I did know him I would tell him to demand Shaun Malcolm's resume since Shaun Malcolm fancies himself a public figure by speaking for the "people". Let's call upon Shaun Malcolm for transparency and HIS qualifications.
Look, I hold free speech in high regard, which I would defend for myself or anyone with an opinion (yes, including Beck). However, I hold sacred the responsibility of that right and I cannot ignore that Shaun Malcolm willfully misreports, act on the "people's" behalf without permission and conducts agenda-driven witch hunts. I speak out against TCI Journal as one individual of many and I have no reason to try to silence them other than their violations that impede on other's rights, voices and actions.
One of the things that really gets me, and I am glad that Mr. Holman brought this to the public's attention, is that TCI Journal fails to acknowledge that Turks and Caicos was enjoying an economic boom until the UK arrived. Certainly former Premier Misick was responsible for this boom as much as he was responsible for his own personal failings. But those in the know, ask why the UK invaded Turks and Caicos when the former Premier had resigned months earlier and a newly elected government was installed.
Misick's plan was generating plenty of revenue and benefits for the country. UK's plan for the islands is...? We see things sliding downhill in a hurry everyday. The UK came in, fired or frustrated many leaders to quit, they raised taxes, cut benefits, they are making decisions without the input of the people -- oh, and they brought nothing with them in the way of benefits or money. Can you see that this is taxation without representation?
To make a point about the national debt of Turks and Caicos, I compare the national debt of the United States of America, a national debt of $11.4 Trillion. US's self governed autonomous territory of Puerto Rico has a national debt of $20 Billion and has a similar tourism economy opportunity to Turks and Caicos. Meanwhile, the UK government is hanging its hat on Turks and Caicos' government debt of $135 Million, which occurred after UK took over the Caribbean island territory. Something is not adding up. How can the UK report this as a reason for taking the island's self governance; and if so, why did UK fail to come to Turks and Caicos with money?
The political game playing in Turks and Caicos is chaotic and creates a climate of fear for the people. The UK will stop at nothing to make a case for their invasion, including violating civil rights of the people (for references of civil rights violations you can go to TCIwatch.com). TCI Journal seems to be the UK's tool to accomplish this task. People in the islands are afraid to speak out due to the impending fear that they will also be targeted by both the UK and TCI Journal.
It is time to get Turks and Caicos on the right track. The UK's presence there is not working and is creating a potential for damage which will take years for it to recover. Turks and Caicos has lost the confidence of investors with the uncertainty created by UK and TCI Journal. Turks and Caicos should have been well on their way to full sovereignty, now it is set back 20 years and no longer has an autonomous self governance. The UN and CARICOM (the Caribbean bloc) have called for an end to UK's actions in Turks and Caicos. It is time for the world to see that UK needs to leave Turks and Caicos and let its people get back on track.
