RANCHI: Christians and Muslims in the state of Jharkhand in India have come together and urged the people to vote for a secular government in the state for the coming assembly elections.
The first phase of the elections is already over on 25 November and with 54 percent of voting no untoward incidents recorded in the state. The all Churches Committee prayed together in Ranchi on Nov. 24 for peaceful polling and asked the Christians to vote wisely for a secular government.
Muslim leaders also had asked the followers to vote for a secular government in the state.
Catholic priests in Ranchi say that the Christians together will approach the voters and ask them to do exercise their franchise, make the electorate realize that, “democracy comes from ballot and not bullets.” The Catholics and the Protestants have come together to canvas for secular parties in the state elections.
The state has 81 assembly constituencies and the first phase had 26 constituencies gone in to elections. About 40,000 security personnel deployed on election duty will remain in the state till the elections get over on Dec. 18. The result would be out on Dec. 23.
