Adam Lambert gave a spectacular performance at the American Music Awards Sunday November 22nd. ABC and some viewers did not agree. They found the performance to be controversial and inappropriate. Lambert's reaction is that it was not his intention to upset anyone and there is a discrimiantion as female performers display provactive moves/gestures yet when a male does the same, it is unacceptable. His reaction is highly understandable and very true.
Madonna, known for her provactive moves and gestures was able to slip by these discriminations throughout her career. Cher has displayed her provactive ways through her elaborate costumes (many of which revealed more than meets the eye).
The performance was appropriate for the song and an example of artistry. Those who are different and make a statement are criticized for doing things many have been doing for years yet went unpunished.
As a result of his controversial performance, Good Morning America cancelled his appearance the next day because they did not want to take a chance with a similar performance on their show. This is unprofessional and based on individual beliefs. Adam Lambert has proven to be an exceptional artist who is the instrument of his craft. He is being labeled instead of seen as the artist he is. ABC may have won the fight thus far but Adam Lambert will win the "war."
