Born as Robert Kosilek, Michelle Kosilek has been waiting for years for a judge in Boston to rule on a request for a taxpayer-funded sex-change operation in order to complete the prisoner's transformation into a woman. In order to permanently remove hair from his legs and other undesirable parts of his body, he wants electrolysis treatments and doesn't plan to pay a red cent towards the bill. If he can't get the hormonal treatments to change genders, he says he will be happy for the time being with the electrolysis. He has had seven electrolysis treatments at tax-payers' expense in the past years before they were discontinued last month. Poor humiliated gay convict, he has to endure walking around with hairy legs while people on the outside of prison wonder where their next meal will come from.
Once an addiction counselor, Kosilek was convicted of killing of his wife. He dumped the body in a car outside a local shopping mall and went missing. Kosilek was ultimately captured in New Rochelle, NY. In 1993, while in prison, he legally changed his name to Michelle. "Michelle" sued the State of Massachusetts sued the state twice in recent years to get the funds for his gender reassignment operation. Discovering he is beat and won't get sympathy or aid from anyone, he has now threatened to kill himself if no one caves in to his arrogant request.
Perhaps, Ms. Michelle, when you killed your wife because she supposively poured boiling water on your genitals, she should have poured acid on them instead. Then, we wouldn't be discussing this ludicrous story!
Massachusetts Correction Commissioner Kathleen Dennehy has said that if Kosilek has the surgery, prison officials believe Kosilek could end up being a target of sexual assault in prison. She reiterates that if given his way, it would be a huge safety and security concern (housing a male that's turning into a female would be absurd and profound). The bold and ridiculous request would cost taxpayers much more than just money as the case would open up a breach in penal sanctions. Imprisonment would be completely redefined, in a time where law abiding citizens grapple with basic necessities and economic oppression.
It is estimated that sex-change operations are in the $10,000 to $20,000 range. Sen. Bruce E. Tarr of Gloucester, Mass., has filed legislation barring the state from paying for the “sex reassignment” surgeries.Courts in several states have ordered prison systems to allow transgender inmates to receive psychotherapy and, in some cases, hormone shots. Some states allow inmates to continue hormone treatments if they are already on hormones when they begin their sentences. But most do not allow inmates to initiate hormone therapy while in prison, and many states do not have any written policy for the treatment of transgender inmates.
It looks for now that Ms. Michelle will just have to do with the girl panties and makeup he/she has been issued in prison.
Kosilek's lawyer argued in court this year that there is "serious medical need" for the electrolysis treatments, which were discontinued in October of this year. His attorney, Joseph Sulman, said halting the treatment has negatively affected Kosilek's mental health. A Department of Correction lawyer said there are cheaper alternatives for hair removal, including depilatories and shaving. Sulman countered that shaving is a "quintessential male" activity. Hmm, I guess that makes all women guilty of engaging in homosexual activities...
I don't know too many women who use electrolysis treatments unless they are wealthy. Why should a prisoner be given special treatment? In many parts of the world, he/she would have been savagely murdered for killing someone. There wouldn't have been due process in a court of law, no lawyers present to express his innocence before a jury of his peers, or even a news article such as this discussing his alleged rights. Why, he would have been brought to the center of town right after he committed the murder and his head would have been chopped off, and the remains of his body would have discarded on the side of a rural road.
Come back to earth Ms. Michelle. No one gives a damn about your legs. You are in prison and there's no one there to impress. Be thrilled you have three meals a day. A lot of people in this country, as well as around the world, go hungry or starve to death.
