The Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is on a state visit to the USA and President Barack Obama would be hosting a dinner in his honor. Normally, such dinners are held in the State Dining room of White House but that can seat hardly 140 guests while the guest list is around 400. Therefore, a separate open air hall has been erected in the South Hall. The reasons behind such an act by the American administration towards India underline the close bonds that exist between the two nations. President Bush has held a similar reception in 2005 for the Indian Prime Minister. The Barack Obama dinner is likely to see some Hollywood celebrities like Oprah Winfrey apart from established Indians in America like Bobby Jindal. However, all said and done, the present guest list of 400 would be far less compared to the one of Bill Clinton that was hosted for the Indian PM Atal Behari Vajpayee – it was around 700 guests!!
