Two architects in New York City are working on a project called the “Revolution Door”.
The basic premise is pretty simple, use something that already exists, like revolving doors, and turn them into something cleaner and greener.
So they have designed is something that turns a revolving door, powered by the force of people pushing, into electric energy. The revolving door becomes an electricity generating turbine.
They estimate that through the revolving door, an average NYC building could power 16 fluorescent light bulbs for a day.
Now imagine if an entire building’s revolving doors and your basic run-of-the-mill doors were converted into “revolution doors”.
A Revolution Door would function almost the same way. Every time someone opens a door in the NYC skyscrapers a small amount of torque energy that is used can be then turned into electrical energy. And that energy in return can be used to power things in that building.
Buildings produce more pollution than cars and inventions like the revolution doors can help fix that problem.
