Palin in Shorts

If there is one word that that best describes Sarah Palin, it would have to be polarizing. You either like her or you don’t. The Left hated her before the election and they detest her now. Yet Newsweek, the left leaning magazine in desperate need of a cash infusion, has enough sense to capitalize on the most popular & talked about woman in the US.

The sexy front page photo of the best selling author, shows her in running shorts, sneakers, pony tails, brandashing a gun and standing next to the American flag. This is exactly how Newsweek wanted to portray Mrs. Palin. For that matter, it is how they would like to portray successful up & coming conservative women in general - Plain & Ordinary. Yet it is these qualities that attract her to so many Conservatives and middle class Americans. But in Newsweek’s warped thinking, the subliminal message they were projecting with their cover shot was that in order to be taken seriously, you must be seen in a dress or skirt . Any woman that has Presidential aspirations, surely can’t be seen in running shorts. The exception of course being if you are a Liberal Male showing off his pecs & abs while posing for a muscle magazine.

The Liberal Elite simply can’t relate to woman with 5 children who decide to have a career as well. They can’t relate to a woman that chooses to give birth to a handicapped child. They can’t relate to a family with names like Trig, Track, Piper, Willow & Bristol. They can’t relate to a woman that challenges the establishment.

For a woman that commands more attention than any Republican today, it is no wonder that the media onslaught of negative & unfair press never ceases. The abhorrent treatment that Palin is put through on a daily basis from hacks like Bob Schieffer, David Brooks, Andrea Mitchell and others, has not kept the most dangerous woman in politics to the Libs, from continuing to rally conservatives & her base of supporters.

The line of attack on display once again by the lame street media, amounts to nothing more than the same shallow and insignificant nonsense, similar to the one that picked up on what she was wearing and how well you interview with Katie Couric. The focus of the questions is never on policy issues as they know that she will draw a stark contrast to the flawed policies of this current administration. The focus seems to be squarely on gossip issues where they try to depict her as a political light weight.

In her new book, Palin sets the record straight about many issues that she was never allowed to while on the campaign trail and immediately following. This will clean the slate on that part of her career and hopefully start the next chapter in her personal & political career. No one will ever clearly understand the hate coming from the Left when the subject is Sarah Palin. What many have come to understand is that it wasn’t supposed to have been this way. A Conservative woman was not supposed to have been the most talked about and popular woman in politics. This honor was supposed to have been reserved for a Liberal. Maybe Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sebelius or Janet Napolitano.

In the meantime, Mrs. Palin will continue to do what she does best. Raise millions of dollars for solid Conservative & Republican candidates, advocate for energy independence, small government, lower taxes, Pro-Life issues, Gun Rights, Strong Defense, Doctor-Patient Rights, Free markets, Capitalism and love of country.

Robert,

I disagree.

You are trying to invoke a double standard here by implying that because it was Sarah Palin, it is a far more egregious error than had it been Michell Obama, Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi posing in the same picture.

i think this is all just media publicity to promote her political career and what she wants to do next in order to help her get there. i am not conservative or liberal, and i don't care for palin, but i think the Newsweek magazine cover looks lame and unprofessional for a political figure, regardless if the person is liberal or conservative. political figures needs a more professional look and marketing. they should leave the creative publicity and covers for actors, models and other celebrities.
Reply By Redhanded101 Redhanded | 2 months ago
fifi,

The photo on the cover is an old photo she posed for on a magazine called Runner's World. SHe did not pose for this shot for Newsweek. Newsweek is simply trying to use the photo to do more damage to her reputation by playing on her sexuality instead of the fact that she is a smart and intelligent lady who is having a major impact on politics in this country.
Reply By oneatari oneatari | 2 months ago
unfortunately for palin, she would be taken a bit more seriously than she is now if she say.... oh, i don't know... fired whoever writes her speeches. during the VP debates, the only times she looked intelligent was when she wasnt reading off her script and was giving honest answers back to biden. unfortunately for the US, when it comes to politics, you can't just be your own person; you have to have people manipulating you if you want to make it big.

I have three words for Sarah Pallin, I want some! To be serious though Pelosi is dumber than a box of rocks and she proves it all the time but you see she plays whatever game they want her to play and so they gave her the speaker position just for that reason. If Pallin were a democrat she would not have to hear so much crap. One older man told me he voted against McCain because of his running mate. I asked him what if Hillary would have won the nomination for the democratic candidate of course he did not have answer for that. I am not anti woman and until these idiots realize a woman can have an intelligence and listen to what is being said. Instead of being an Archie Bunker who only listens to biased bigotted opinions. I hope you get my drift by now. Pallin is not the problem and she does not have shortcomings they try to pin on her. She is smart and would be a better president than Hillary or Obama.

gyro52,

The problem is that the left & elite in this country feel that woman with children should just stay home and raise them. They don't like the fact that Palin proved that you can have a big family ata that and stil have a career. They detest her she is Pro-Life and had the guts to bear a child that she knew was going to be handicapped.

Many people try to focus gossip instead of policy issues because they know that her brand of politics resonates with a large portion of the population.

Did anyone even read the Newsweek article or the caption, "she's bad news for the GOP and for every body else, too"? What a crock saying that Newsweek has to capitalize on Palin's activities "in a desperate need for cash infusion".

Hello! Unless you have been living in a cave, every magazine, newspaper and network has been focusing on the breathless anticipation of Palin's book-of-fabrication launch.

"No one will clearly understand the hate that comes from the left when the subject is Sarah Palin...". It's not a matter of "hate". It is simply a matter of not being willing to give a free pass to someone woefully lacking in any credible qualifications to a be political leader.

She quit as governor of Alaska before her first year was finished. What part of unqualified to take on the heavy lifting do the conservatives not understand?

There was a national poll done yesterday asking if Palin was qualified to be president and 74% said "no".
Reply By Redhanded101 Redhanded | 2 months ago
Dragon,

Newsweek has no problem propping up Liberal woman and glorifying them, (i.e. Hillary Clinton - Woman of the Year), but when a Conservative is on the rise, they resort to child like journalism. But hypocrisy never met a dollar it did not like. In a word, they are prostituting themselves to sell some magazines.

Want to talk about credible qualifications to be a political leader. Do you know what the Governor of a State does? How about a Mayor? Only in your world are these not credible political positions. Contrast that experience with the Presdients own experience and there is no comparison. Our Presdient spent all of 150 in the Senate before running for President. Before that he was a State Legislature who voted present 90% of the time and before that he was a Community Organizer. Credible Qualifications? Maybe Maybe not.

She was elected Governor of Alaska in Nov 2006, she resigned in July of 2009. I think that translates into 2 yrs and 8 months in office...How did you come up with 1 year? I gues it must be the new math that they teach in grammar school...

I have no problem with conservative up and running ordinary women... none at all. as long as they do not want to govern a country such as big and influential for the rest of the world as the US, without even knowing basic world geography -or US geography for that matter. Sarah Palin is a liability for the GOP at this point. If this is the face of conservativism, it is a problematic face. Running a country is not as simple as running her family and Sarah Palin (although not especially promising in either) seems to blur the boundaries between these two.
Reply By Redhanded101 Redhanded | 2 months ago
katerina,

I guess you don't mind then that our own President thinks that there are 57 states...

On your second point, Republicans that do not espouse true Conservative values have a problem with her as well. She represents & lives by many of the principles and values she stands for. And for that reason millions of Americans are attracted to her brand of politics.

Running a family was not a problem for the Obama's why should it be for the Palin's?
Reply By leciat leciat | 2 months ago
she did not pose for this article. newsweek took this photo from an interview she did for the runner’s world magazine. the out of context newsweek approach is sexist and so typical of the biased propaganda consistently hurled at her. and she is not "brandashing a gun."

what is it about our society that thinks sexuality and intelligence is exclusive of one another

That is exactly right. They are trying tosend a subliminal message to readers that says if you want to be a serious Presdiential contender, you can't be posing in running shorts and sneakers.

It is typical of Newsweek. It is no wonder that their magazine is floundering and losing subscriptions.

She got her ass kicked? - Really? Geez, and I thought it was McCain who was running for President and she was the VP and I think it wasn't a run away election either.

Robert Weller - People who speak against the monstrosities of legislation Obama and his radical liberal Congress are passing without ANY money - are not racist for opposing mass deficit spending. However, that cover on Newsweek SURE IS SEXIST.

Is it ok to be sexist in this country in your mind? It sure isn't in mine and that is why most people like you criticize her. You're running around calling people racist for disliking a President? Well - you're sexist for disliking Palin.

If it doesn't matter to you that you're labeling - hey, I got no problem with it either - YOU'RE SEXIST.

No one is buying this racist boo hooing anymore. On with the business of leading our country to prosperity and making this country work again.

what a ridiculious article.

You're trying to make this into a sexist thing. But what's funny is Sarah Palin posed for that photo all on her own.

What's funny is O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, and everyother male conservative like Huckabee can't talk about Sarah Palin without bringing up how hot they think Palin is.

You know someone criticizes Palin on the issues and you bring it down to "why do they hate Sarah". When someone criticizes Sarah for being an idiot, it's "why can't you talk about the issues".

First of all Sarah Palin may have had the appearances of Virginia Foxx and we still would criticized her. trust us, we don't hate her cause she's a milf.

We think she's an idiot, and the people that support her reveal a lot about themselves when they give reasons for why they support her. And when conservative sources can't go a day without reminding everyone about how hot she is, well like I said, it's revealing.

Should we treat her differently from how we treat all the conservatives we think are stupid because she's a hot girl?

She gets the same treatment every other politician gets...aw is that treatment too harsh for poor old little Sarah. Afterall she is attractive, we're suppose to treat attractive people nicer than fuglies.
Reply By Write4Life Maryann Scarangello | 2 months ago
Amal - MILF is a horrible term and as a female - you should know that anyone who says it is AS bad a person who uses a racial slur. WOMEN are still by far the MOST oppressed people on this planet.

I personally said Robertweller is sexist....BECAUSE he said people who criticize Obama are racist...which, I assure you - I am NOT and many who criticize Obama are NOT.

I said calling people who are against Obama's ideas "racist" is the same thing as calling people who are against Palin "sexist."

Both are FALSE if the person is not.
Reply By amalgam80 amalgam80 | 2 months ago
That's my point.

Criticizing Palin is not a gender thing.

The "milf" comment is meant to be offensive, that's how I felt Red was framing his argument.

You know, she's a mother of five, she's attractive, people don't like her cause she's attractive and powerful.

Most of Palin's critics would love it if she ran for President, why? Because we truly believe she will lose(unless of course another 9/11, happens or something).

That opinion is based on here merits and opinions, not on her looks.

Me again Redhanded and Blackwidow you are OOO sooo right. To you robertweller waaaaa quit crying you need to grow up. I remember Obama himself saying that crticizism of him is not racist. I am a "liberal" in some aspects--"conservative" in others--and either way, I don't see anything wrong with this picture. She is a beautiful, strong woman and though I may not agree with some of her beliefs, I think that Newsweek's outrage at her photo is simply catty.

I also don't think shirtless Obama is a bad thing either. Just because one is a political figure doesn't mean that they have to wear a tux or gown when going to the gym or beach.

antonia,

I do talk about things that are not political. But when it comes to politics, I do enjoy drawing the stark differences between the two. I think it is important to offer an opposing point of view especially to the younger generation who may be pigeonholed as well through no fault of theri own.

In any event thx for the comments.
Reply By antonianoel antonia noel | 2 months ago
I suppose it just bothers me (when everyone does it) because I feel that pointing out the well-known differences between conservative and liberal point of views is like beating a dead horse and just digs a deeper hole to be pigeonholed into. Offering an opposing view is definitely a worthy idea, but playing the blaming game is no more than childish.

A lot of the times your writings come across as, for example, "Liberals are pro-choice. Liberals do not believe in God. ALL liberals are baby-killing heathens." You have a hard time separating opinion from fact, and your emotions from your theories. I believe people like myself who are slightly left-of-the-middle would appreciate your more conservative views if you did a little less finger pointing and a little more understanding.

All in all, you'd be surprised just how conservative liberals are when you ask the right questions.

A80,

I'm not making this into anything. All I am saying is that Newsweek prostituted themselves to sell a few magazines. Simple enough.

Newsweek is the attempting to degrade her credibility by showing her sexy side. Do you have a problem with seeing Barack Obama pose for a Men's Muscle Mag showing off his pecs & abs?

Your reasoning is not rational. "She is an idiot" is not substantive. The Left is living and dying with the Katie Couric interview and Tina Fey's impersonation of Palin. You have nothing else to debate on .

On policy issues she is spot on. She is a formidable fundraiser, she popular witha big portion of this country and she is a doer.

If you argue against that, than you are just too caught up in hating jsut for the sake of hating.
Reply By amalgam80 amalgam80 | 2 months ago
"Do you have a problem with seeing Barack Obama pose for a Men's Muscle Mag showing off his pecs & abs?"

I'm sorry but did I miss this when it happened, cause I don't know what you're talking about. Does Obama even have pecks and abs to show off? What muscle magazine?

And no, it's not the picture that is the problem Red, it's the representation. It's what the picture symbolizes.

The picture represents something. Now that representation may be different for you than me, but for me it represents exactly what I've written about her.

"Your reasoning is not rational. "She is an idiot" is not substantive. The Left is living and dying with the Katie Couric interview and Tina Fey's impersonation of Palin. You have nothing else to debate on ."

I have never even watched the Couric interview of her and don't base my opinions on anything but what she's said in speeches and in her own words.

"On policy issues she is spot on. She is a formidable fundraiser, she popular witha big portion of this country and she is a doer."

Yeah spot on as the same policies that the neocons and Bush had. Same old ideas that have been tested and have failed everytime.

Everytime.

She is a fund raiser, she is popular. And she is also an idiot. Just like Bush was. Just like Joe the plumber was, just like Bill Kristol is, just like Cheney is, Just like Palin was during the election last year.

And she's a liar just like them too. An idiot and a liar. No wonder the right absoluetly loves her.

I like her - but hope she does not run and her is why...
MOST of America hates her. Not because they know enough about her - but because they are not into politics. Period.

The commenters on this site are very rare. We're all about politics - so we like her or hate her based on beliefs, what she says, and what she stands for.

I asked someone who told me they didn't like her: "WHY?" They said: "She's stupid." I asked why they thought that - they had no answer. Hadn't even seem the Couric interiew that people often refer to. Had not heard her speak at pro-life rallies, to the media - at an event - NOTHING. She said: I don't need to hear her speak - I can just TELL she is stupid.

Unfortunately - that's more the average American than you and me. - Too much ignorance and self absorbtion has made us as a Nation unaware of the politics that surround us. Recently a local radio guy here in Boston went around and asked people about local and national politics (a lot along the lines of the Rasmussen report.) Hardly anyone knew who BARNEY FRANK was and this is Massachusetts!! Many had no idea what Cap and Trade stood for.

To us that just seems impossible - but - it's really reality.

Newsweek hates Sarah palin because she is a right wing politican who didn't go to a elite school in the northeast part of the country like a lot of the mainstream journaists and politicans did. Love her or hate her Sarah is newsworthy.

LEFT & ELITE? Do I hear you right that you are implying the "elite" (usually meaning the Rich + influential) and the "Left" (usually meaning wingnut liberal beatniks!)somehow want women to stay home and raise kids? I somehow see that coming from the Conservative Right and "traditionalists".
I think you have a few wires crossed in your allusions.

I'm not even sure the left know why they hate her.

Interesting points of view on this article. I wonder what my fellow truth seekers feel about the scandal brewing in the Caribbean. This is truly a world crisis. Opinions and suggestions are sought. http://www.allvoices.com/users/TCIwatch

Deep,

In a nutshell, you are right on the money. She speaks the language of the common man and that is something that endears her to many.
