KARACHI: Opener Mohammad Azeem Ghumman scored an unbeaten 148 to propel Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) to a first innings total of 297 for three against Lahore Shalimar in their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match which commenced at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday.
The 18-year old Hyderabad-born batsman kept his cool, waiting for the loose deliveries to be dispatched towards the boundary to hit his first ton of the season. His unbeaten knock was punctuated with 11 fours and a six. Saeed Bin Nasir was the other not out batsman with him who made 57 as SSGC were comfortably placed at 297 for three at stumps. Bilal Asad (38), Imran Abbas (23) and opener Asif Zakir (25) were the batsmen to get out. Yawar Abbas, Sheraz Butt and Slaman Khan captured one wicket each for Shalimar.
Meanwhile, Karachi Whites were all out for 170 in their first innings against WAPDA here at the NBP Sports Complex. Akbar-ur-Rehman top-scored with 58. Shabbir Ahmed and Azharullah claimed three wickets each. In reply, WAPDA were 128 for four. Opener Adil Nisar hit 44 with five fours and a six. Jehangir Mirza (34) and Ali Azmat (25) were still at the crease. Tabish Khan took three for 56 for Karachi Whites.
Left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman captured four for 39 to help Habib Bank bowl Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) out for 245 at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad. Test cricketer Muhammad Hafeez (69) and Azhar Shafique (61) were the main contributors. Habib Bank, in reply, were ten without loss. Both Habib Bank and SNGPL are joint leaders of Group A.
At the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad, Peshawar dismissed Islamabad for 256 in their first innings. Number three batsman Ali Sarfraz made a solid 96 with 14 fours and two sixes. Test cricketer Riaz Afridi took five while Azam Khan captured four wickets. Peshawar, at stumps, were 47 for two. KRL posted 319 for seven in their first innings against National Bank at the KRL Ground in Rawalpindi. Zahoor Elahi was batting at 76. Opener Saeed Anwar Junior also made a fine effort by making 52 with nine boundaries. Medium pacer Wasim Khan took three wickets.
At the Gymkhana Ground in Okara, in-form Adnan Raees scored an unbeaten 101 to help Abbottabad score 279 for nine in their first innings against Multan. Adnan smashed 14 fours in his impressive knock. Opener Fawad Khan hit 89. Ansar Javed picked up three while off-break bowler Wasim Majid clinched two wickets.
Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) were 224 for eight against Customs at the Marghzar Ground in Islamabad. Zulqarnain Haider was batting on 59 while opener Zohaib Khan was the other batsman with a substantial contribution of 56. Paceman Ahmed Jamal took four while Tahir Mughal claimed three wickets.
At the LCCA Ground in Lahore, Quetta were dismissed for 220 against Lahore Ravi. Opener Shehzad Tareen scored 68 while tail-ender Arshad Khan made 37.
Muhammad Irshad claimed three while Aamir Hayat, Junaid Khan and Waqas Ahmed captured two wickets each. In reply, Lahore Ravi were 15 without loss.
Muhammad Ramiz took six for 43 for Rawalpindi to dismiss Sialkot for a paltry 107 at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.
In reply, Rawalpindi were 115 for four. Opener Babar Naeem hit 53. Naved Arif grabbed two wickets for Sialkot.
