That really peeves me! We talk about corruption in Afghanistan and the Afghan Government. We have discussed often about corrupt President Karzai his corrupt Government, and his drug lord brother being on the CIA payroll. Now we are finding out private security is paying of the Taliban not to blow up our equipment and to not kill us.
First I want to say I guess we are not paying them enough. This is sick! Drugs and corruption seem to be Afghanistan's main industry! Think about the scope of this and the future ramifications as this so called terrorism progresses around the world. We are setting a very dangerous precedent.
I was stunned to find out if we do not pay the Taliban their bribes they blow up bridges kidnap people and generally create mayhem until they do receive their kickbacks. Also the Taliban actually keeps an office in Kabul to review major deals, determine percentages and conduct negotiations. That absolutely amazes me! Obama is looking at paying off the 70% of the Taliban who are not considered hard core and will switch sides for money as we have heard, They are called the $10 a day Taliban and with 15,000 of them costing $300,000 that would be a drop in the bucket compared to the 165 million per day we are paying to fight this war. We are paying off the Taliban not to kill us, the Government is totally corrupt, And they do not want to cooperate or fight for their country, no wonder Obama is stymied as to what to do next. I am not! Get us the hell out of this mess in an honorable withdrawal with heads held high. Our troops did their job, the Al Qaeda is gone! Afghani’s do not want us there, they do not want a Democracy, nor do they want a central Government.
* In closing: To top everything off trucking firms use DOD cash to pay off the Taliban, the US pays off the enemy not to attack convoys, Karzai cousins control the key routes to Kandahar, and we are approaching the 9th year with no end in sight unless we listen to Max Cleland, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Ambassador Eikenberry and withdraw. The chorus is growing!

I think the only people who are making voices against continuing the war in Afghanistan are the non-patriots who don't care for the safety and security of our nation. They are the people whose sons are in active duty in Afghanistan. They have to remember that by getting out so erly and leaving the job unfinished or half done will be a terrible mistake as we have done in the past when we withdrew all our aids and assistance after the pullout of Russian (read USSR) troops from Afghanistan. We trained the Mujahideen and instead of helping them resettle and integrate in the society we left them to fend for themselves. These are the same people giving us tough time there.
The US and NATO forces have killed, maimed or wounded thousands of innocents civilians in Afghanistan and with our hellfire missiles, cluster bombs and experimental nano warheads containing fissile materials raining death and destruction on civilian targets in Afghanistan, the end scene is yet to be played out. It will be a shameful defeat and disgrace for American and NATO forces.
In my view what little good can this administration envisages for Afghanistan will be to pump in hundreds of billions of dollars in building infrastructure, opening schools, colleges and universities, Hospitals and tertiary health care facilities and providing market access in US and EU.
Till the time these facilities are provided the forces must remain in Afghanistan. As apparently this time around the taliban and the local Afghans will not allow the US forces quick safe exit as desired by some of us non patriot Americans including the writer of this article.
It is asinine to pump money into infrastructure they do not believe in and are destroying as fast as we em place them. They do not want what we are selling period. We did our job the rest is up to Afghanistan.
They have never had a central Government and never will. They are tribal period. You know, one of my sons willingly went to Iraq yesterday and a couple have been in and out of both Countries. One is doing his damnedest to get back to Afghanistan.
Partisan games aside I refuse to believe there are any non patriots here only those who refuse to do the right thing for the country instead of their party!
Anyway don't forget the Taliban militants Islamists whatever you call them they want nothing the modern world offers period. Thinking they do is counter productive.
