Prime Minister Gordon Brown must be one hell of an angry man these days! So much so, that the buzz in 10 Drowning Street must be whether the PM should be rechristened as Gordon RED!

The anger doesn’t seem to be so much because Mr Brown had to apologise to Jacqui Janes, the British mother of a soldier killed in Afghan war last month, whose name he mis-spelt in a handwritten condolence letter he had penned to her. The anger seems to be stemming from the fact that the news about the letter is now public what with Jacqui openly claiming that it is laden with errors.

I had always thought that politicians do not write their own speeches, let alone letters! But this PM seems to be a different Brown, I mean of a different ilk! It would help him if he understands now at least that it is imperative that he never ever touches a pen but dictates his messages to a person designated to do the writing for him.

While recruiting such a person though, he will need to ensure that he/she possesses minimum knowledge of syntax, orthography, grammar and above all tact. I personally would recommend that Mr Brown need not even bother about the dictation part and consult a certain Mr Obama who can teach him a thing or two about letter writers, speech writers, tele-prompters, the works..!

Meanwhile, while PM Brown’s cabinet members were still wondering how the mistake came about in the first place - given that Mr Brown doesn't drink while on job - a totally new controversy seems to have surfaced with The Sun publishing the transcript of (no, not the letter, but…) a phone call that Brown made to Ms Janes!!

Given the situation, I think I will need to extend my dippest Condoleezzards to Mr Brown, whose stock seems to be dipping steadily these days, while not forgetting to extend my deepest condolences to Ms Jacqui Janes.

PS: This piece is intended to bring a semblance of comic relief into the lives of all of us who are bombarded with news of conflict and tragedy of a world which is getting more and more lost in meaningless battles, wars and gore - day in, day out!

this article meant for "bringing a semblance of comic relief into the lives of all of us..." is an insult to all the right thinking men and women. How can one be so insensitive to a news item wherein a Head of State (Gordon Brown of UK) is at pains to explain that the mistakes made in writing the condolence letter occurred inadvertently.

The author of this article owes an apology to the family of those killed and wounded in Afghanistan while serving their nation's interests.
