I will let the world in on a secret about the Turks and Caicos Islands' government and the collapse thereof. There is a nefarious group trying to take down all governance of this Caribbean island territory for their own financial agenda.
The folks at TCI Journal, a highly controversial political web blog in the islands which takes credit for bringing UK's governance to the islands (alleging corruption by the government), apparently have made an about face yet again and are turning on the UK's interim government. Their practice of setting people up and attempting to "bring them to justice" is exhausting, even the people who they had propped. It feels like a game of ping-pong with TCI Journal. We never know what those characters are up to.
Martin Stanley, the original chief executive of Turks and Caicos' interim government, turned the reigns over to Mark Capes last month, who now holds that position. Mr. Capes returns to Turks and Caicos after serving in other parts of the world since 1994, including Anguilla and most recently in Bermuda.
Seeing as Mr. Capes understands the culture of Turks and Caicos, from his past experience working in the islands, his understanding of the culture could be useful in sorting out the political and cultural challenges at this time.
However, Mr. Capes has stepped into some dark pits of controversy and lurking characters waiting to set him up. These character have already unleashed a firestorm of ultimatums involving his career as chief executive and ultimate success in the islands.
Mr. Capes is the most recent to be targeted by TCI Journal, which appears to have a lasting agenda against the hospital building contracts in Turks and Caicos. It looks like TCI Journal has a new target in Mr. Capes hoping to "persuade" him to find that the hospital development contracts "are not transparent" thereby voiding the development contract with Johnston International.
Lack of transparency is the catch phrase used by TCI Journal, the folks who refuse to reveal their funding source, agenda or authors; they further disallow comments from readers on the site and they do not reveal their "sources".
TCI Journal's written message, with respect to Mr. Capes, can be seen as no less than a threat particularly in conjunction in context with its historic witch hunts:
"Up to this moment the hospitals deal is not a 'millstone' around Mr. Mark Cape's neck. He has just arrived. However, if there is continuing inaction from his office by not suspending the NHIP, and not providing greater transparency on the healthcare contracts and their finances, he will soon inherit this healthcare maggots nest as if it were of his own making."
Really, TCI Journal? The man hadn't even arrived in Turks and Caicos and you are already threatening the poor man with the fate of your collection of other victims.
Shhh. I have a secret. I think I know why TCI Journal is desperate to stop the hospital contracts. The man rumored to be financing the TCI Journal is David Hartshorn, a developer who came to the Islands years ago from the UK with Johnston International. Johnston International won the building development contract for the hospitals in Turks and Caicos. Johnston International, through it's purported financier Lord Michael Ashcroft, began squeezing Hartshorn out of developments in the islands, forcing Hartshorn to form his own development company called Projetech. It appears that now TCI Journal, Hartshorn's media company, seeks to destroy all Johnston developments and perhaps even all competing developments in an effort to secure development and Crown land for his projects. I believe that TCI Journal uses the island's vulnerable political structure and government members to do Hartshorn's bidding and he uses them to further his agenda by bringing them down.
There appears to be a special hatred of Lord Michael Ashcroft and Michael Misick by Hartshorn and TCI Journal - for which TCI Journal will stop at no cost to try to destroy them. That has not been fully understood yet. We call on the UK to investigate the characters behind TCI Journal, the ones who made the "anonymous" and not-so-anonymous claims of corruption by the Michael Misick administration which brought the UK to the islands.
Back to Mark Capes. Mr. Capes dares to defy TCI Journal by vowing that the hospital contracts are indeed valid and proper. Mr. Capes has approved the contracts despite TCI Journal's dozens of articles to cast doubt on the hospital contracts and its builders, and to cast doubt on Mr. Capes should he make the "wrong" decision by approving the contracts.
It seems now, that TCI Journal makes an about-face and is turning its back on the UK, the ones that they so proudly beat their chests for bringing "better governance" to the islands. This just goes to prove that TCI Journal and folks could care less about the island's governance and people. They want their way and will stop at nothing to exploit any resource to get it. Don't you worry, they will find a way to twist and create "facts" and arguments to further their agenda by trying to bring in a new political party "for the people". Just you watch and wait.
