2,687 days. That is how long former President George W. Bush managed to keep Americans & this country safe from another act of terrorism after the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers in NYC. Something that we had grown accustomed to, even as horrific as that darkest of days on September 11th 2001 was. As vulnerable as we were in those days immediately following those attacks under the leadership of George W Bush, America picked herself up as our President vowed to never let this happen again on his watch.
George Bush recognized the enemy. He recognized the threat. He recognized that the ability of the American people to go about living their lives without the fear or worry of being attacked again, was paramount. The safety of our children, our servicemen & women, and our way of life was put ahead of narcissistic concerns from the Muslim community or his approval ratings.
He did not make excuses or gloss over the facts. He put political correctness aside and called out the perpetrators. He set out to break the back of international & domestic terror cells by beefing up intelligence gathering, and allowing the CIA & FBI to do their jobs.
When it was all said and done, hundreds of terrorists were put away, countless plots to destroy American landmarks and bridges were foiled, thousands of conversations between terrorists were intercepted and acted upon, and not one additional person died as a result of another terrorist attack. A feat that in many circles goes unnoticed.
288 days into the Obama administration, the worst terrorist attack on American soil takes place. A symbolic attack on the largest military installation in the country. If not for the bravery on 2 police officers, the toll of that attack may have been in the hundreds. It is not by coincidence that this attack has taken place. We are no longer in the Bush era and the “War on Terror”. We are in the era of political correctness and “Man Caused Disasters”. We are in the era of Janet Napolitano where dissenting Americans and returning soldiers are the real threats to America. We are in the era of Eric Holder where “America is a nation of cowards”. We are in an era where Gitmo detainees are treated like first class citizens and those that put them there are portrayed as criminals.
We are in the era of apologizing for America & appeasing our enemies. We are in an era where Islamist terrorism does not pose a threat to our country. This is the era of America is Bad.
We live in an era where American ideals are secondary. We are in an era of mandated diversity. When you put all of this together, it leads us to Fort Hood and the worst Man Caused Disaster since 9/11.
The tragedy was met head on with obfuscations about mental stress, psychotic concerns and apparent excuses for a clear act of terrorism. An act that 67% of Americans feel should be investigated as a terrorist act.
It took 288 days from the time George Bush left office for terrorism to once again inject itself into our psyches. This time, there is no sense of feeling safe. There is no sense of accountability. There is no sense of leadership. I know, I know. George Bush is to blame for this. Obama can do no wrong.
