Living under the 2000 ft Law

People think that the 2000 foot law for Sex offenders is a great idea and that it keeps our children safe. I can tell you that it is the total opposite. Although I am not a sex offender myself I know people who are and I live with someone who is bound by the law. I can tell it is not easy circumstances though we are lucky enough to have found a home to own that meets the requirements of the law. I know others who are not as lucky they reside in cramped hotel rooms, campsites or rest areas, some even live at the work in modified apartments just so they have a home. The 2000 foot law does not make children safe statistics show that for most victims of sex crimes the perpatrator of the crime was someone they are close to and knew well. Only a small amount of crimes does the victim not know the perpatrator. Even in the case of Jetseta Gage Roger and James Bentley knew who she was her mother was dating Roger and was friends with James Bentley. Also another alarming statistic is that becase of the tougher laws more people are being accused of sex crimes that may be innocent and they are urged into plea deals in order to quote on quote protect the victim. We are in such a hurry to put away sex offenders that we are forgeting the main concept of innocent until proven guilty. I wrote a paper back in 2007 about the law when researching the paper I completely examined the sex offender registry person by person. The statistics were alarming as to how many offenders were missing and there wherabouts unknown. This has only increased as they may give on address but be living somewhere else. I encourage you to look on the registry and see for yourself also examine what these crimes were to a lot people on the registry are convicted of minor or questionable crimes that had lack of medical or credible evidence but the investagators are quick to say yes a child was sexaully abused because they belive that children don't lie and have no knowledge of sex. These conclusions are farther from the truth a child can easily be manipulated into saying that someone did something to them and sex is everywhere today on tv, and in all of the media. If you would like to view the paper the Iowa 2000ft Law are our children really safe written by myself and two of my classmates one bieng Kami Greenwood a criminal justice student at Kaplan University in Cedar Rapids. I would be happy to send a copy of it.
