SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador - Flooding and mudslides caused by Hurricane Ida has now killed 91 people and dozens are still missing. Most of the people were buried by mudslides or carried away by raging rivers. It has been impossible to reach many of the areas affected because of damaged roads.

Carlos Lopez, a spokesman for the Red Cross, said a river in Verapaz overflowed and swamped 300 homes. Around 7,000 people are in shelters.

Forecasters are saying hurricane conditions are headed towards the U.S. Gulf Coast.
