The town of Smithers, British Columbia is not exactly a metropolis. It is a quiet little mountain town kept alive by a railroad, agriculture, services and the forest industry for the most part. People come from all over the world for the fabulous fishing and it is an important junction for hunters of all stripes as the northwest teams with all manner of furry critters. Moose, deer and bear are abundant in this neck of the "woods".
The town is blessed with a vibrant artistic community and the Bulkley Valley is filled with artisans, carvers and musicians in every nook and cranny. You will find few statues adorning the town that pay tribute to heroic warriors or foreign statesmen or poets. That doesn't mean the town is bereft of statues... by no means! No siree..the place boasts some pretty imposing figures...most of them fur-bearing and liable to bite!
Sure..it ain't the Bridges of Madison county...stay tuned for Part 2!..Caribou..people and objects'd art
