Why do straights hate gays

DEAR STRAIGHT PEOPLE,

Why do you hate gay people so much?

Gays are hated. Prove me wrong. Your top general just called us immoral. Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, is in charge of an estimated 65,000 gay and lesbian troops, some fighting for our country in Iraq. A right-wing political commentator, Ann Coulter, gets away with calling a straight presidential candidate a f*****. Even Garrison Keillor, of all people, is making really tacky jokes about gay parents in his column. This, I guess, does not qualify as hate except that it is so distasteful and dumb, often a first step on the way to hate. Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama tried to duck the questions that Pace's bigotry raised, confirming what gay people know: that there is not one candidate running for public office anywhere who dares to come right out, unequivocally, and say decent, supportive things about us.

Gays should not vote for any of them. There is not a candidate or major public figure who would not sell gays down the river. We have seen this time after time, even from supposedly progressive politicians such as President Clinton with his "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays in the military and his support of the hideous Defense of Marriage Act. Of course, it's possible that being shunned by gays will make politicians more popular, but at least we will have our self-respect. To vote for them is to collude with them in their utter disdain for us.

Don't any of you wonder why heterosexuals treat gays so brutally year after year after year, as your people take away our manhood, our womanhood, our personhood? Why, even as we die you don't leave us alone. What we can leave our surviving lovers is taxed far more punitively than what you leave your (legal) surviving spouses. Why do you do this? My lover will be unable to afford to live in the house we have made for each other over our lifetime together. This does not happen to you. Taxation without representation is what led to the Revolutionary War. Gay people have paid all the taxes you have. But you have equality, and we don't.

And there's no sign that this situation will change anytime soon. President Bush will leave a legacy of hate for us that will take many decades to cleanse. He has packed virtually every court and every civil service position in the land with people who don't like us. So, even with the most tolerant of new presidents, gays will be unable to break free from this yoke of hate. Courts rule against gays with hateful regularity. And of course the Supreme Court is not going to give us our equality, and in the end, it is from the Supreme Court that such equality must come. If all of this is not hate, I do not know what hate is.

Our feeble gay movement confines most of its demands to marriage. But political candidates are not talking about — and we are not demanding that they talk about — equality. My lover and I don't want to get married just yet, but we sure want to be equal.

You must know that gays get beaten up all the time, all over the world. If someone beats you up because of who you are — your race or ethnic origin — that is considered a hate crime. But in most states, gays are not included in hate crime measures, and Congress has refused to include us in a federal act.

Homosexuality is a punishable crime in a zillion countries, as is any activism on behalf of it. Punishable means prison. Punishable means death. The U.S. government refused our requests that it protest after gay teenagers were hanged in Iran, but it protests many other foreign cruelties. Who cares if a f***** dies? Parts of the Episcopal Church in the U.S. are joining with the Nigerian archbishop, who believes gays should be put in prison. Episcopalians! Whoever thought we'd have to worry about Episcopalians?

Well, whoever thought we'd have to worry about Florida? A young gay man was just killed in Florida because of his sexual orientation. I get reports of gays slain in our country every week. Few of them make news. Fewer are prosecuted. Do you consider it acceptable that 20,000 Christian youths make an annual pilgrimage to San Francisco to pray for gay souls? This is not free speech. This is another version of hate. It is all one world of gay-hate. It always was.

Gays do not realize that the more we become visible, the more we come out of the closet, the more we are hated. Don't those of you straights who claim not to hate us have a responsibility to denounce the hate? Why is it socially acceptable to joke about "girlie men" or to discriminate against us legally with "constitutional" amendments banning gay marriage? Because we cannot marry, we can pass on only a fraction of our estates, we do not have equal parenting rights and we cannot live with a foreigner we love who does not have government permission to stay in this country. These are the equal protections that the Bill of Rights proclaims for all?

Why do you hate us so much that you will not permit us to legally love? I have been hated all my life, and I don't see much change coming.

I think your hate is evil.

What do we do to you that is so awful? Why do you feel compelled to come after us with such frightful energy? Does this somehow make you feel safer and legitimate? What possible harm comes to you if we marry, or are taxed just like you, or are protected from assault by laws that say it is morally wrong to assault people out of hatred? The reasons always offered are religious ones, but certainly they are not based on the love all religions proclaim.

And even if your objections to gays are religious, why do you have to legislate them so hatefully? Make no mistake: Forbidding gay people to love or marry is based on hate, pure and simple.

You may say you don't hate us, but the people you vote for do, so what's the difference? Our own country's democratic process declares us to be unequal. Which means, in a democracy, that our enemy is you. You treat us like crumbs. You hate us. And sadly, we let you.

Ok, I for one do not "hate" gays. and anyone that says that they do "hate" gays is definitely in the wrong. But in reference to my christian belief, men having sex with men & women having sex with women is wrong, ACCORDING TO MY CHRISTIAN BELIEF. BUT!!!....I do not JUDGE homosexuals, I do not HATE homosexuals, nor do I discriminate against them. I feel like they should be able to marry whom ever they want without governmental limitations. Because even though homosexuality is a sin, its a sin to be dealt with by God, not the government.

PSDirectory I respect what you are trying to say but then you have to go and ruin it by judging me as soon as you say you don't judge and you say you do not hate but you do just not directly by saying what I am is a sin, may i add here that homosexuality is not something one chooses well at least i did not: how can something that one does not choose be a sin? Are you among that still hang on to the believe that gay people "choose"? Why would anyone "choose" to be hated, feared and have done violence done against them for something they could choose not to do? "I chose to be gay the same day you chose to be straight"...think about that.

Sweety, Homosexuality is a sin according to God, not me. I am not able to tell you why or how its a sin, because I am simply a messenger. I dont question God, but I know that hes right.

I understand that you have sexual feelings for someone of the same sex is something that you cant help. I KNOW homosexual people DO NOT choose to be homosexual. But having the URGE is not a sin, BEING A HOMOSEXUAL is NOT a sin. But ACTING upon that urge, something that you CAN choose, is where the sin comes into play...think about that

In accordance to my religious beliefs, a man is to marry a women and they are the only righteous combination to have sex. But as I said, I dont hate people that have homo sex, premarital sex, bestiality sex,....because even though those are all sins (that almost ALL humans commit), those are all sins to be handled and judged by God, Not me..Nor the government, nor any human..

lol such a hypocrite it's ok to love another just don't express your love!!! are you even listening to yourself? And the Bible also says other things are a sin like wearing polyester and eating pork, which makes me believe that the Bible you place so much stock in; no matter how much inspired by God was written by men. Men with intentions (not all holy but more based upon the accumulation of power) and prejudices.

As the church was growing it needed new members well we gays can not reproduce therefore the "church" bans us. and also no where in the bible does it say that homosexuality as a sin. Im sure you are going to use the Leviticus verse next so let me cut you off at the pass to speak..that verse is talking about the Jewish Health Code or law not Gods law and is not refering to sex but just the act of sleeping cause during that time diseases were rampant and the only communal sleeping the goverment "The Jewish High Priests" wanted to reduse the spread of disease was that only married people were to be bed mates. And in Exodus the phrase misquoted many atime was that the citizens of Sodom and Gommarah wanted to have sex with the Angels..the phrased used for saying that was used only six times in the Bible(I am talking the orginal Corni-Greek (forgive spelling) translation. all of the remaining 5 times it just simply means "to know someone to meet them" but in this one and only time we are supposed to believe it means to know them carnally.

And you keep claiming to be "Christian" do you know what that word even means? It means to be Christ-like. and there are some Christian churches that believe that homosexuality (the love and sexual parts) are ok to God. So for you to say that being gay is a sin and we shouldn't have sex is like me telling you that you can not have sex with your husband that i am sure you love very much...it is hypocritical and ignorant. My God is a God of love and I know in my heart that God created me as I am and that he made me this way and I am going to Heaven...

There are many different faiths and you use yours to define who you are...that is foolish and dangerous for it was people that you that burned Witches at the stake at Salem ... not realizing what we know now is that those women were most likeloy suffering from mental illness due to lead an mercury posioning. Remember it was your church that even tried and convicted many a scientist for saying the earth was not the center of the Universe. And i bet you stil believe that God created the Universe in & "literal" days...lol.

It is people like you who wrap yourself in one interpreation of a book that has been rewritten at the whims of man so many times that the true mesdsage has been almost obliterated that scares me for you can then hide your true prejudices in it and claim that it's not your thoughts but something that God is making you do...How very Christ-like...NOT!!!!

And to put me or any other gay person in the same discusion as beastiality..Your true colors are showing through...and I am not your sweetie so stop trying to patronize me. I am a human being that deserves the same repsect and rights that you enjoy.

You are getting waayyy off of your own topic..

1st of all, I never said ANYTHING "love" for gay people. Just because I dont hate someone doesnt mean I love them. I simply meant that I do not hold ones homosexuality against them and that would never be a BASIS for me to hate someone.

And as far as your 2nd paragraph goes, its all just a bunch of junk to me. I am not jewish so jewish beliefs have no effect on my own. I am a christian, I own a christian bible, and in my Bible that I believe and follow, in Genesis, God created Adam & Eve, not Adam and Steve. And thats what I know to be true.

And I dont get why you seemed sooo offended. Just because I said that my religious beliefs go against homosexuality?? As I said, I dont have to explain Gods word. All I know is that its true..
And if other christian churches out there believe that having Gay sex is okay, good for them. But I have interpreted the bible differently, obviously...

AND THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY HAS BECOME A DEBATE OVER WHOS RELIGIOUS BELIEFS ARE WRONG AND WHOS ARE RIGHT. IM NOT TRYING TO CHANGE WHAT YOU BELIEVE AT ALL.

I believe that homosexuality is a sin. Romans 1:27 is an example of why I believe its wrong. The beginning of Genesis is why I believe homosexuality is wrong.

But as I said, I dont have to explain Gods word to you. Thats not what this conversation was suppose to be about.

You had asked why do str8 people hate Gay people, and me (as a str8 female) have answered your question on a person level and Im going to answer it again because you seem to have forgotten..

I do not Hate Gay people, I do not treat Gay people differently than I would anyone else. BUT in accordance to MY OWN RELIGIOUS BELIEFS (THAT VERY WELL MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM YOUR OWN) having homo sex is a sin.
But I also believe that marriage between 2 people of the same sex should not be regulated by the government (I already said that)
So I have given you as much support on your topic as I can. But I am not going to mask and lie about my religious beliefs just because you dont agree with them.

And no one is patronizing you but yourself. If you have soo much confidence in your sexuality, then why are you whining about people discriminating against it??
