The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Al-Samani Al-Wasila, has expressed his optimism that the coming negotiation session in Doha will be successful for realizing a lasting peace in Darfur. He said in a press statement that the Qatari initiative was confronted by a number of impediments, including the

diversity of the armed factions. He referred to the efforts of Egypt and Libya and the American envoy for uniting the armed factions, adding that wide strides were achieved in this regard. Al-Wasila referred to the agreement of the partners in the mediation process, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings, to deal seriously with those who do not want to reach a peace agreement. He said that the government remained keen and serious to reach a peace agreement, but some movements are opposed to reaching a peace agreement. He called on the armed movements to unite their rank and to work for restoration of stability and security in Darfur. The minister affirmed Sudan keenness to establish good relations with Chad, referring to the recent visit of the Presidential Advisor, Dr. Ghazi Salahuddin, to N'djamena. He said that Sudan is waiting for arrival of a Chadian delegation in Khartoum toward enhancement of the bilateral relations. On the recent visit of the American envoy to Sudan, he said that this visit was aimed to boost the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and completing the files on Darfur issue. He pointed to an improvement in the American understanding on the importance of cooperation with Sudan, adding that Sudan is appreciating this progress. The minister appreciated the talks held lately in Khartoum between the Sudanese and Czech parties and the agreement signed by them, announcing that the Ministers of Industry and External Trade would visit the Czech before the end of the current year to continue talks and to sign a number of agreements.
