For at least one night in Nuremberg, Germany size didn’t matter.
David Haye has toppled the giant in a WBA heavyweight champion match by outscoring the 7’2”, 319lb Nikolai Valuev by decision after a 12-round bout.
For all those similarly situated, it was the Motion of the Ocean.
Haye, who had earlier boasted to knock the former champion out, had to dial it back after the second round due to what he perceived as a broken right hand.
Haye lead on two of the judges score cards 116-112, with the third judge ruling a 114-114 even match.
Valuev had an eight inch reach advantage, a seven stone weight advantage and some eight inches in height advantage.
Haye beamed Sunday morning after the victory, looked to heaven and held the line – at least for one night – that size didn’t matter.
