The Tearing Down of Migrant Slums
In Kunming, Yunnan there has been a movement to tear down and force migrant workers out of the slum areas they reside in currently. This major shift is causing a lot of migrant families to be left with little to no options for housing. The rental rates are also sky-rocketing because of the destruction of the migrant slums.
Many renters are able to double the price in rent as a result of the destruction of these migrant slums, forcing multiple families to live together to save money. Where will these migrant families go? Where will their children go to school? How will they continue to try to make a living in the city where they thought they could have a second chance? These are still questions that needs to be answered.
