You can be sure that Roman Abramovich is smiling and for a good reason. The owner of Chelsea Football Club received good news yesterday that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have decided to suspend Fifa’s transfer ban on buying players.
The Blues were recently punished by Fifa for siphoning Gael Kakuta, then a 15 year old, from French club Lens FC two years ago. The suspension came just in time when some of their key players such as Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Micheal Essien and John Obi Mikel, are missing in action due to their participation in the African Cup of Nations. It also sent a clear warning to their close rivals, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal that they are still strong contenders for the glorious English Premier League trophy despite recent setbacks and defeats.
This comes in wake of an important clash with Manchester United today at Stamford Bridge. Those eager to know who the better team is between the two should fix their eyes on today’s league match encounter, which will determine their standings in the League table and perhaps ultimately, the champions of England.
