Fedor Emilianenko, considered by many to be the greatest active mixed martial arts fighter in the world, just won his USA debut in stunning fashion over his once-undefeated opponent, Brett "The Grim" Rogers, in a heavyweight contest at the Sears Centre. The fight was showcased on CBS, which makes its foray back into the MMA spotlight after the Elite XC-Kimbo Slice debacle. Fedor knocked out Rogers with one punch with 3:12 left in the 2nd round to maintain his status as world's best heavyweight. However, the fight was more difficult than expected. Rogers broke Fedor's nose in the first round and was staying in the fight until he was KO'd.
The fight was sponsored by Strikeforce MMA and Fedor's MMA corporation called M-1 Global. Many have criticized Fedor for not fighting in the UFC due to unfruitful contract negotiations with UFC's owner, Dana White. However, Fedor silenced some of these critics for now after displaying his superb knockout power once again.
In other fights shown, Fabricio Verdum was able to withstand the early attack of Antonio "Big Foot" Silva in order to win an unanimous decision in a heavyweight bout. Gegard Mousasi was able to retain his Strikeforce light heavyweight championship belt by defeating Thierry Rameau Sokodjou with a KO in the 2nd round due to ground and pound. Jake Shields was able to win the Strikeforce middleweight championship by winning an unanimous decison over 'Bully Beatdown' host Jason "Mayhem" Miller.
