America the beautiful

As members of Congress gathered in Capitol Hill today to try and finally ram through their $1.3 Trillion version of a Healthcare Bill, you may be witnessing the end of America as we have known it for the last 233 years. Despite pushback from Republicans, Democrats, unfavorable CBO scores, doctors and the majority of Americans, Nancy Pelosi and Congress have chosen not to heed their concerns. They have opted instead to put America and future generations on the brink of becoming the next Banana Republic.

On the heels of a report by the Center For Responsive Politics that shows that 44% or 237 members of Congress are millionaires – compared to 1% overall for Americans, our Congress just thumbed their noses at their constituents and have torpedoed the hopes and dreams of their children and grandchildren with a massive Healthcare Bill that will kill jobs, reduce Medicare services for the aged and increase everyone’s taxes.

The transparency that was promised to us by our President turned into backroom deals held exclusively by Democrats without any Republican input. The promise of televised debates on CSPAN, are nothing but a blur. The Town Hall Protests seem like years ago. The House Call Protests on Capitol Hill did little to dissuade politically hungry Congressmen & women to rethink their positions. And why should they? It is not going to affect them in anyway shape or form.

They will all continue to receive the best Cadillac plans afforded to them as long as they remain in office. Most are so rich that even if they left office, they could still afford to buy the best healthcare available. These are filthy rich people who on the whole are out of touch with the common man. You can rest assured that Nancy Pelosi will never have to worry about paying for her Botox or Joe Biden for his hair transplants.

From day one this has been an assault on America’s Freedom. It was never about reforming Healthcare. This has always been about turning this country into the final Nanny State. America is that last bastion of self independent nations and this has irked this President to no end. His quest to unseat America as the greatest country in the world has finally come within his grasp.

The slayer of the greatest country in the world, will be applauded by nations around the world. What our enemies and terrorists have not been able to accomplish for hundreds of years, Barack Obama will have done in a year’s time.

The Single Payer system that he coveted and talked about so passionately behind closed doors to his radical cronie’s, is finally at his finger tips. He has heeded Rahm Emanuel’s cry of “ Never Let a good crisis go to waste” and is now on the precipice of dropping the guillotine on the neck of the best healthcare system in the world.

He has played on people’s sentiments, he has strongarmed opponents, he has threatened allies, he has shut off the voices of the American people, he has attacked the opposing media and all along never delivered on the crucial elements of Healthcare Reform - affordability, deficit neutrality and bipartisanship. He has been shackled by the Left and led by Pelosi and company. He has never once listened to America. Where are the amendments to break the back of Trial Lawyers that prey on Doctors like vultures on a dead carcass? Where are the incentives to open up competition in the Private Insurance industry across state lines?

If competition is what is missing, why not allow the over 1700 medical insurance companies to compete amongst themselves? They were never going to be a part of this bill or any other bill that the Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats put out.

The crucial elements of reform have all been thrust aside for the sake of just passing a damn bill. The Public option is how they will finally bring America to her knees. The last great independent nation is being cut to pieces by an ideology foreign to many Americans in this country. For 100 years the Left has tried to take away Americans Freedom to choose their own doctors and institute a Government Healthcare Program. For 100 years, Americans have rejected this idea as fundamentally wrong. A hundred years later it is still fundamentally wrong. But this time around, far too many have sold their souls, have bowed to pressure, have been silenced, have been ridiculed, have been mocked, and cast aside. The will of today’s American has been slowly eroded by years of bashing the rich and conservatives. They have molded the minds of many young , of the impressionable, of the lost.

They have taken advantage of a generation of politically correct, passive and permissive men & women who have been misinformed but remain star struck. A generation of pacifists that more and more shows a lack of fortitude and a strong work ethic. A generation that has been transformed into followers instead of leaders. A generation that has forgotten how to work hard to earn a living. A generation that has more & more become dependent on the government for their needs. Somehow redistribution or taking away the fruits and labor of the haves to give them to the have some and have none, has become the rallying cry.

This day November 7th 2009, will perhaps go down in history as the day that America lost it’s Independence. To think that over two hundred years ago, courageous men stood up and claimed our independence under extreme circumstances. Men who fought for Freedom only to have it surrendered to and taken away by a handful of power hungry Congressmen & women. A freedom, that our children and grandchildren will now never get to see.

This healthcare bill only confirms a fear of mine That freedom as we know and relish is slowly slipping away. Why should the government have a say in which doctor I choose or what I am allowed to be treated for?! I would rather pay for health insurance and have the sweet right to choose what I want!

So as the only developed nation that does not offer a public health plan we should just stay the course? As the only "Super Power" we should be able to take care of our citizens. How about we NOT build a Stealth Bomber or two to help offset the cost. (2.0 Billion each in 1997 dollars)

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-2_Spirit

Yes the health bill is expensive and yes our taxes will probably go up, but it will only get worse without doing anything.

Brandon,

We are not saying no. We have Health Insurance in place already. Anyone in this country can walk into any emergency and get treated. Our Healthcare is still the gold standard in the world. This idea that it needs to be overhauled for the sake of less than 10 million uninsured is ludicrous and way too expensive.

It is also ironic that the net result of teh Bill wiil be to place a mandate on th uninsured to buy health insurance and in the end it will still almost 20 million uninsured.

This is being forced thru without the consent of the people. Shame on Congress for ramming thru the worst piece of legislation in probably 150 years.

First off, The Government is NOT taking over health care. The plan is to offer a "public option" or as it should be called "Medicare for All" to the portion of the public who cannot afford a plan, are not offered any insurance through their job, and/or who do not qualify for Medicaid.

Medicaid: Being poor does not automatically qualify you. There are very strict guidelines that need to be met before you can be covered and it varies by your location.

The plan also mandates businesses offer insurance to their employees. To that point: Healthy workers, are productive workers. Lets see a comparison of hours lost/cost due to illness vs. cost of coverage and does that coverage help save costs to a business owner.

There is also stuff on pre-existing conditions, end of life decisions, (btw: decided by you and your doctor, not a "death panel"), preventative care and much more.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a non-partisan source for definitive answers on what else is in the bill. As I understand the bill in the Sen. is much different, so we'll need to wait and see what is kept and even if if gets through there.

Btw: I did have coverage until recently, canceled it because it would not cover me anyway. I paid several thousands of dollars over a few years to a company that decided that because of a condition I had when I was a teen (now 35) it would not cover the expense of a new condition.

Brandon,

A couple of key points that you just glossed over.

1. What makes you think that someone that cannot afford to buy Health Insurance now on the open market is going to be able to afford thru the government exchange?

You still have to go in your pocket and pay for. This is not free healthcare. You may be able to find a policy offered thru the Public Option of the plan, but you still have to pay for it.

2. You say healty workers are productive workers. Employers have always offered their plans to their group plans to their workers. If you choose not to get it that is on you. going forward, many employers will simply opt to pay the penalty assesed to them than cover their employees. Being covered with Health Insurance is not going to make you productive. That is a lousy excuse for being not being productive.

Btw, your last line about having your insurance being cancelled sounds very familiar to something out of the movie SAW Part VI. Not saying I don't believe you, but sounds very similiar.

Going to a ER for treatment is a major factor to why insurance cost so much right and the most expensive way to get treatment. The cost of an uninsured patient in an ER gets passed onto insurance holders.

So the millions of uninsured (roughly 10% of pop.?), I assume most living at or below poverty level, should just fend for themselves? Survival of the fittest? Who cares about my neighbor, as long as I'm good? Does not sound very christian or patriotic to me.

And like it or not, the congress does have the consent of the people. If you do not like what your Rep. or Sen. is/is not doing, you have the ultimate power to stop them in the voting booth when it is their time for re-election.

Brandon,

This was supposed to have been about reforming the parts of healthcare do need reforming. This was not about ransacking 1/6th of economy and letting the gvt run & mismanage it like so many other entitlements programs that have started out as noble causes but have turned into a burden for all of us and future generations.

Reform was to supposed to have been specifically for those 10 million or so that can't get insure today. it was not meant for Illegal aliens, people making over 85K a year or anyone that chooses not to get it.

People are not dying in the streets like some third world country. For the most part even the poorest in this country have access to care. It's called Medicaid. even illegal immigrants tap into our Healthcare system.

In the end, you will wind up paying more than you do now. That is if you pay at all. i assume that you may be one of the under insured that wants to see Universal Healthscare in this country...

The end of America?

Please. You conservatives just want America to fail.
Reply By Redhanded101 Redhanded101 | 12 days ago
Mike,

Maybe not for you. But for the person that will have to boot the bill and the business that will have to lay off people and for an industry that will shed millions of jobs it's not.

The fact that it passed with only 220 votes tells you something. If it were not for the mob style back room deals and threats to vulnerable Congressmen & women, this would not have been passed.

This is abuse of power and each and everyone of those Congressmen & women that voted for this Bill will have to pray that Americans forget before 2010.

If the health care bill passes in the Senate, then Americans will be taxed to the gourd because of the $398 billion dollar deficit within the bill confirmed by the CBO. However, with taxes going up, it will prevent same-sex marriages from happening because then the government will not give out any tax breaks that are unnecessary. I think it will go through even if Sen. Lieberman votes nay; Sen. Snowe and Sen. Collins appear like they will vote yea to keep it over 60.

I hope you know that Vice President Joe Biden's net worth is estimated at $27,012.

You failed to write that there is no difference really between the number of Republicans that are millionaires and the number of Democrats.

Out of the 25 poorest four are Republicans, one is an independent and the rest are Democrats.

What a dramatic article. Such melo-drama.

You really have a flair for hyperbole and paranoia.

What are you going to say 10 years from now when America will still have all the same freedoms it has now, I wonder?

WHen everything will still be as good as it is right now. Only better because there probably won't be a recession.

That's hysterical.

Mike - Conservatives did NOT want America to fail....that's hysterical too.

Conservatives want to see the current rushed legislation examined and they want to see more fiscal responsibility on behalf of this adminstration who act like a bunch of children in a candy store with unlimited funds.

Otherwise, what we will see in 2012 is someone else who gets to blame the past adminstration.

We don't have any money. It doesn't get any clearer than that.

A common mistake about the healthcare bill is that it is replacing private insurance companies, but it actually ISN'T. This healthcare bill is only introducing a public option, so citizens can CHOOSE BETWEEN private insurance companies and a government insurance plan. It is because of this that I agree with the bill. It is meant to accomplish two tasks: 1) Help people who get screwed over by/can't afford private insurance companies, and 2) Fight "localized monopolies" of insurance companies throughout the U.S.

A80,

If you believe Joe Biden is worth 27K, then you are hopeless.

Americans will be far worse off 10 years from now then theyr are today. With this bill, you are on the brink of living in the United Nanny States of America.

This is a concerted effort to kill American enterprise and jobs. It is a Social Engineering exercise to make you and everyone else a ward of the state and create a centralized government. This is the Dems & Libs wet dream.
It is a sad day in America when the voices of the people are muffled by a handful of power hungry Libs.

Health and Education are the key aspects of development ..No one can disagree ..

It's the responsibility of state to interfere when things go out of hand .. pvt insurers try to make max of the situation without consideration to moral duty or commitment to values . And in that case having a state eneterprise compete with pvt will not make state a nanny state .. but if govt bans entry of pvt sector in insurance then it ll be a nanny state
Reply By Write4Life Write4Life | 12 days ago
This isn't the State interferring - it's the federal government and it isn't well thought out and forces debt on this nation like never before. The bad outweighs the good and the only reason it was forced on us was because the American people WILL vote the Dems of of majority in 2010.

Because of that the Democratic majority is acting like a totalitarian democracy.

As for healthcare being out of hand - the facts used to make that claim were misleading and inaccurate at best and the health care of the nation would have been better solved had the Democrats opened the doors and worked together with the Republicans.

I watched the entire debate last night. I wonder how many people did - IT WAS HOURS long. This is what happened in two sentences:

1. The Republicans spoke to Republicans
2. The Democrats spoke to Democrats

At no point was it more evident that this was the case then when the floor yielded to the horrible Nancy Pelosi who did not make one look to her left to acknowledge the Republicans.

This Congress is the absolute undeniable WORST Congress ever in the history of the United States.

"Where are the incentives to open up competition in the Private Insurance industry across state lines?"

It's in the bill.

Well there aren't any incentives, but the Insurance companies can operate across statelines.

It's just one of the many amendments added to the bill that Republicans wanted.

I just looked it up - the lowest figure I found was 277k - You're either missing a 7 or the VP gambles. I looked a little deeper and I found one article that puts his net worth at 150k.

He sold a home in 1996 for 1.2 million - which was the topic of heated debates... why? Because of the value and to whom it was sold.

The NAtional Review did an article about Biden and the sale of his home to MBNA which ended with this:

"It might be interesting to hear the young Joe Biden's reaction to a case that would arise twenty-five years later. A top executive of a rich and spendthrift company buys the home of a financially strapped senator, paying a generous price. After that, virtually the entire top management of the company gets together in a coordinated campaign to donate money to the senator, getting around campaign contribution limits. And then, after the senator is re-elected, the company hires the senator's son."

All of that aside...I guess we don't factor in the lifetime pension he'll get that will always be adjusted for inflation?

Mr. Biden sits darn pretty on a pig and his net worth is NOT 27k.
