Despite admitting to misspeaking regarding his relationship to Jiang Cin-liang, Premier Wu Den-yih has threatened to sue Nantou County Commissioner candidate Lee Wen-chung. Wu made the threat in regard to claims made by Lee that Wu was involved in giving favors to Jiang through a monopoly on the gravel business in the county.
DPP Nantou County Commissioner candidate Lee Wen-chung claimed that Premier Wu Den-yih and Jiang Cin-liang went to Bali Island together to negotiate benefits from the gravel industry and to discuss candidates for Nantou County Council speaker. Wu said Friday he will take a hard line against Lee’s claims.

Lee Wen-chung should please make his evidence public, said Wu. If he can establish that the purpose of my trip to Bali was what he said it was, then I will resign immediately. If Mr. Lee Wen-chung cannot establish this within three days, he must publicly apologize and retract his statements. Otherwise, I will pursue both criminal and civil complaints against him for slander.
Jiang also made a statement at a press conference held by Wu.

Our trip to Bali last year was a public journey, said Jiang. It was purely a tourism industry fact-finding trip. No one should use this type of arrogant strategy in an election.
The chairman of the DPP’s Tsaotun Township Chapter, Huang Wen-jun, contradicted Lee’s version of events.

Lee Wen-chung once requested that I take him to the night market to see Jiang Cin-liang, said Huang. They have met each other and shook hands. I think that even in an election there is no need to be like this because friends are forever and elections are temporary.
With it looking more and more like both parties have been associating with the darker side of Taiwan’s society, the losers seem to be members of the public who want to choose a clean candidate in upcoming elections.
