This is the sort of thing that turns Afghans against the NATO and US forces. Too often air support is called in and often civilians are among the casualties. This time it seems the air strike was on the wrong location entirely. McChrystal is supposed to have cut down on the number of strikes but these incidents seem still to happen fairly frequently. This is from the BBC.

''Afghans die in 'Nato air strike'
At least eight members of the Afghan security forces have been killed in a Nato air strike, the Afghan defence ministry says.

The incident occurred in the western province of Badghis on Friday, as Afghan and US forces were searching for two missing American soldiers.

The patrol came under rebel attack and reportedly called for air support.

The Afghan defence ministry said a base housing coalition troops and Afghan security forces was mistakenly hit. ...""
