Diabetes can worsen your quality of life if not taken care of. This segment highlights issues a diabetic needs to be aware of so that complications can be avoided.

Diabetics can cause various complications in the body. Complications related to small vessels affect eyes, and kidneys. The second complications occur in the bigger vessels which affect the heart, brain, legs and feet. They can deteriorate the patient's quality of life. Appropriate lifestyle changes are necessary to avoid such complications.

Healthy blood glucose level is indispensable for the maintenance of normal functioning of nerve tissue and under normal conditions, is the sole source of energy for the brain. High blood sugar levels damage every tissue in your body. Diabetics are at high risk for loss of memory because diabetes damages blood vessels that supply the brain, heart and other organs. High blood pressure causes stiffening of blood vessels hindering oxygen supply. As the blood glucose level falls, oxygen supply to the brain reduces and the patient may experience symptoms of confusion, weakness, dizziness, impaired mental functioning, irritability, and loss of consciousness. The damage can be brought to normal if blood sugar levels are controlled. Timely treatment can prevent serious consequences like, coma or brain damage.

Appropriate amounts of insulin should be used in order to avoid complications of the brain. With high blood pressure, high cholesterol and uncontrolled sugar there is a great chance of paralysis which can be life threatening. High sugar can also be affected on electrolytes like sodium, potassium, fluoride. An individual can experience a dangerous state if levels of sodium are reduced in the body. This greatly affects memory if left uncontrolled.

For prevention and treatment it is important to have proper and good controlled sugar. Exercise and walk regularly after breakfast (half hour in the morning and then half in the evening). Avoid this on empty stomach in case of sugar level is reduced. Shed weight. Obesity or overweight is a big enemy of diabetics. Eat more vegetables and fruits should be taken three times a day. Avoid red meat. Eat fish and chicken usually in baked form or cooked in less oil. Use olive oil if one can afford. Visit a doctor regularly. Patients usually don't follow doctor's advice after they get better which is a very wrong attitude.
