After the tragic events that unfolded at the biggest military base in the United States, Fort Hood, most would have thought today would be a day of grieving and questioning. However, today instead marks another shooting spree, this time in Orlando, Florida. It's being reported that one person was killed with five others being injured and the man behind the mayhem is former employee Jason Rodriguez.
From what news sources have released to this point it appears as if the 40 year-old,Rodriguez used to work for the company that was targeted at the Gateway Center in Orlando over a year ago, but was let go because of "performance issues". Jason clearly took the firing personal and when the sun rose Monday morning, he entered the 16 story high-rise and began shooting up the establishment. Upon hearing the gun shots, police and swat teams were sent into action where they quarantined off the area and entered the building looking for the armed and extremely dangerous Jason Rodriguez. However, police and Swat team forces were unable to locate the perp and later received information that the he had fled the crime scene.
Official news sources have now confirmed that the suspect, Jason Rodriguez was caught and apprehended at this mother's home on the east side of Orlando. The one dead and five other wounded were all employees of the same company and sources close to the situation are confident that the shooting spree was in result to his poor performance firing. It seems as if Mr. Rodriguez held all who worked for the company personally responsible for his firing, which led to him shooting all that were in his way. At this point nothing is for certain and no comments have yet to be made official to the reason for the shooting spree, but one thing is for sure; these shooting sprees need to come to a halt.
What is perhaps most unusual is that this is not the first time in history that shooting sprees have taken place in consecutive days on American soil. It's not uncommon to see these types of situations where one major spree leads to several others. When one person shoots up a school or building it essentially is spreading the okay for the rest of those mentally disturbed people out there to do the same. After the killing spree at Columbine High School in Colorado, the days afterwards were marked by several lesser scale shootings. It will be interesting to see moving forward how much the current economy and war in the Middle East has played into these current shootings and ones moving forward.
