ORLANDO, Florida - A gunman by the name of Jason Rodriguez opened fire Friday morning in the offices of Reynolds Smith & Hill, a transportation engineering consulting firm. Rodriguez, 40, was an engineer for the firm and was let go in June of 2007 for poor work performance, according to Mike Bernof, a spokesman for the firm.

So far, reports are saying one person is dead and five others are wounded in critical condition. Rodriguez, 40, quietly surrendered to police about three hours later after officers saw him through the window of his mother's home.

As Rodriguez was handcuffed and being led by police officers, he told reporters the reason for the shooting rampage was "because they left him to rot."

How frightening. That always scared me working in an office since I was the first person people saw which made me a target and my boss really ticked a lot of people off, I was just waiting for someone to snap. Very scary, you never know when something like this is going to happen, very scary.

You never know what people are going to do anymore, anywhere.

this is scary, indeed. I'm a cashier right now and often, one of the first people seen where I work, So I think about getting shot.. I think about some crazy person coming in with a gun.. I try not to dwell on it too long and just do my job. I know that God is with me but anything can a happen at anytime. There is no SAFE place anymore, not in today's society.

I also know what it's like to be "let go" because of performance issues. Gee, performance issues are so vague, I hate it when emplyers use that term; it could be anything!!

I'm glad Mr. Rodriguez was caught.. or turned himslef in..whatever the case.

"They left me to rot," he said, 'They' being his former employers, I presume.

I assume he was referring to his former employers that "left him to rot." He was fired over two years ago, so he's had plenty of time to build up and explode, which is what he did today.
