Four brand new amphibious boats have been acquired by the Mumbai police. Hopefully, these would thwart any designs of terror modules for a repeat of the 26/11 attacks. Keeping in mind the fact that the terrorists of the 26/11 carnage had landed on the west coast via the Arabian Sea, the police are ready with the boats. Each boat is equipped with GPS, can accommodate four armed personnel and operate with ease on land and water. It can attain speeds of upto 40 knots on water and 10 kmph on land. Similar boats are already in service in New Zealand, Australia, Spain and Malaysia. With this addition, the fleet strength of amphibious boats is now 15 and it is expected to increase to 50. The police chief feels that this augmentation would be able to combat threats from the seafront.
