The killing of at least 12 men by an US Army officer in Fort Hood, Texas, has sent shock waves across the World. The suspected officer is a Doctor, a psychiatrist to be precise and his name is Nidal Malik Hasan aged around 40. He holds the rank of a Major, is an American citizen born in Arlington, Virginia and a Muslim. He had, reportedly, been transferred to Iraq and his sudden outburst could be attributed to this factor. It seems, subsequent to the 9/11 attacks, he was under a cloud of suspicion because of his ethnicity. He has not been killed in the shootout. Reports suggest that he was trying to get out of the Army. The question invariably pops up – why have wars? It has been proved that military personnel who return from war fields become psychological wrecks because they see themselves as nothing but authorized murders who kill in clod blood because their country demands it.
