Twelve dead, including ten soldiers and two civilians. Where? Ft. Hood Military Post, one of the largest installations in the world. Who? Major Nidal Malik Hasan, physcharistrist. Why? That is yet to be determined yet his area of expertise implies, truly, that the cogs which turned out such action will never fully be reconstructed as to give us a straight and simple answer.

Now this is indeed a tragedy yet as in many cases the external factors already, at least my own mind, seem to be numerous. I do not believe that he, solely, acted on his own volition. Yes, to the senses one can say that a single man walked towards a college graduation being held on base and that he, solely, opened fire on the gathering crowd. But as author John Donne said "No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent." and this situation does not in any way transcend Donne's point. We are a whole. Don't let your ego driven existence fool you into thinking that you are not me and that he was not you. And if this comes off as silly mysticism I implore you to see that biological evolution also agrees with the poetic quote. For we all derived from a singularity which connects us for all of time till the Cosmo's is no more. We failed this man; no organization is real other than that of mankind, and once again mankind has hurt itself by creating illusions that manifest into violent hatred towards its own extension of its own being. We live in a violent world and we are products of our environment.

As stated before, we will more than likely never know, for certain all of the reasons why he acted the way he did. And to be honest, I do not think he did either. Thus making this incident even the more tragic. Human life wasted because a man whose world was corrupted by modern society by that which could have been avoided. Now in defending Major Nidal Malik Hasan I am also defending everyones right to be safe. Was he protected? Were those taken this afternoon protected? If so, why must we mourn, why are we even placed in a position where mouring is necessary. I mourn, I mourn, I see us (mankind) slipping in these instances, I see these times as alarms to awake but society is hitting the snooze button. What happens now?

Already the communications director, Ibrahim Hooper, of the Council on American-Islamic is "condemning" the act of violence. And seeing that ignorance is more than abundant, in fact its down right an epidemic, this can only heighten mislead fears, unjustified judgements, and negative nation wide view on Islamic culture. One look at seeing pictures of crying and pain and the primitive emotions of those who seemed to have yet to evolve properly will be raising their pitch forks and torches; actually that would be a compliment more like clubs and sharp pieces of flint. We should set aside primitive, regressive and petty emotions and be progressive, loving, and be there for those affected and in a manner that is mature and appropriate.

Tomorrow let us not start as we normally do. Tomorrow let us unite to prevent instead of blame and wait for a repeat.

Is it a wait and see at this point?

I would think so. My optimism is high that we take this tragedy to seriously have an open dialogue to discuss the core issue. Now I know this sentiment has been produced before time and time again yet i know we are very much capable as a whole to see this with clarity yet seen on the mainstream agenda, to resolve something, instead of attending to its symptoms.
