Malik Nadal Hasan

In what has become an all too common & tragic occurrence, a lone gunman opened fire at a military processing center in Fort Hood, Texas. When the gunfire was over, 12 people lay dead and 31 others were wounded. The wounded gunman identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan - an Army Psychiatrist who had recently been transferred from a post at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC. to Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, was shot & wounded on the scene by civilian police. While at Walter Reed, Hasan had received a poor performance evaluation prompting the transfer to Darnall.

Two other men were arrested in connection with the shooting and were later released. It has not been determined yet whether Hasan acted alone or had any accomplices. Fort Hood operates as a closed post meaning that anyone that enters the base even if they are in the Military, is screened and checked for weapons to ensure the safety of the over 50,000 people that make Fort Hood their home or place of work.

At this time, authorities have not revealed too much information regarding what may have triggered the incident. A few people have come forward with information that may shed light on Hasan's state of mind prior to the shooting. What is known so far is that Hasan was born & raised a Muslim. it appears that he had expressed his desire not to go to Iraq or Afghanistan on many occassions to some of his peers. He had also complained on other occassions about being harrassed about his race and had gone as far as hiring an attorney to try and stop the harrassment.

In an interview with a co-worker, it was revealed that Malik was known to have made statements to say such things as Muslims should not be fighting Muslims. He felt that Muslims should stand up to America and fight the aggressor. If this is true, it is a very disturbing and troubling development. Anytime one of our soldiers loses their life in the battlefield it is somewhat more understandable as hard as it may be. To think that some of our young men & women returning home after their tours of duties, were killed by one of their own because of political & religious motives - is treasonous and unforgiveable.

This type of act is not without precedent. Earlier this year, Pvt. William Long was shot down and killed by a Muslim convert outside an Arkansas Army Recruitng center. Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad had targeted Army personnel “because of what they had done to Muslims in the past". Hasan apparently had empathized with Muhammad and felt that he was being treated unfairly. He went as far as to say that perhaps more Muslims should strap bombs around their bodies and kill more Americans to get their message across.

I would hope that along with sending his prayers to the families of the slain, President Obama condems this act forcefully and call out Muslims direcly if this turns out to be an act of lone jihadism against our military. The last time this sort of incident occured, the WH was almost apologetic in it's remarks and if this is the tone this President is going to use - expect more of these incidents to continue to take place.

In the weeks to come, we will learn more about the shooter and his motives. For now, let's all send our prayers and condolensces to the families of these brave young men & women who gave their life serving our country.

    shahzadalam,

In this case, Major Malik Nadal Hasan had never been on any tours to Afghanistan or Iraq. He was never out in the battlefield.

He made one very telling statement that may shed light on his motives. He said the folowing to a co-worker:

"Muslims should not be asked to figjht Muslims. Muslims around the world should rise up against America the Aggressor"

Those words reveal a lot about his state of mind.

I read the web post where he supposedly said that. He didn't. He mentioned the incident and pondered whether the person who jumped onto the grenade to save his fellow soilders is considered a suicide.

He didn't side with the soilder that threw the gernade he talked about if what the other soldier did was considered suicide and came to the conclusion that it was not, it was a strategy.

And this pondering was based on a paper written (by someone else) on the topic of suicide and terrorism.

The man has been part of the US military for over 15 years. The dude just snapped and went on a rampage. Just because he's been vocally against the war doesn't mean anything (I guess it means something if you are Muslim while opposing the war, huh).

Muslims aren't suppose to kill other Muslims. I hate the two wars going on. I want them to end. We are occupying two countries, we should leave.

There I said that, does that now make me a terrorist.

Should Obama have to call out Muslims for my words and activities too. I mean I do intern for CAIR.

"President Obama condems this act forcefully and call out Muslims direcly if this turns out to be an act of lone jihadism against our military."

I don't think he should, if he does, he's as stupid as Limbaugh. If this was a lone jihadi, why should Obama call out Muslims?

Should we call out the religions of the other soldiers that have snapped and killed their own troops. Or is that kind of recognition saved for just for Muslims.

    A80,

You can color this with pastel colors just like the State Run media is doing, but this sounds more and more like the guy was sympathetic to the Muslim cause and the Wars he was asked to fight.Last I heard, he was heard yelling out "Allah Akbar" right before he started shooting.

We need to call it like it is. This is no random incident.

Obama is also symapathetic to the Muslim cause and will never call them out even on an act of terrorism.

This lackadasical approach has given new found courage to a lot of these kooks looking to cause harm to Americans.

It's great to have comments form various points of view. I guess the question is can a "lone jihadist" really be alone? Or would he be acting in response to a general call for the Muslims to act? Which would not necessarily be "lone".

Or is he a psychiatrist who day after day has heard about the horrors of war from returning soldiers with post traumatic stress disorder, and on top of being a Muslim going into a Muslim country? He has heard the worst of what it is like there and how it has affected people, and did he just flip out in fear?

Or a combination of the two...

    HJKirk,

I think that as more evidence comes out and his background goes thru a thorough examination, there will be eveidence that points to the fact that there are many domestic terrorists that want to bring harm to Americans. If he was upset about the stories from soldiers coming back, he could have taken a leave of absence or had himself checked in for treatment as well.

I don't think this was the case. THere are too many stories surfacing about his sympathy for the Muslim casue and how he was against Muslims having to fight Muslims.

This was just a cowardly act done for political or religious motives I believe. The media will of course spin it favorable and say it was due to other factors.

Because he said Allahuakbar, that means he's a Muslim terrorist?

You don't know anything about the Islamic religion or culture. Allahuakbar is used for many things and reasons. A practicing Muslim probably says Allahuakbar three or four times a day.

It could mean anything from "yay" to "oh sh!t".

All the Allahuakbar statement means is that he is a Muslim. That's about it.

"We need to call it like it is. This is no random incident."

Really, no random incident huh. So tomorrow the rest of the Muslims in the military will all shoot a bunch of U.S. troops. And then the day after the Muslims in Congress and the White House will take over.

Are you actually trying to turn this incident into a political statement against Obama?

    Are you serious? Really?

The Muslim Cause...oh no not the Muslim cause, of all the possible causes to support, not the Muslim Cause.

WTF is the Muslim cause exactly and why didn't I get a memo? How come no one in my family(nuclear and extended) didn't get the Muslim Cause newsletter.

The only Muslim cause I know is be a good Muslim. Don't steal, don't kill, don't hurt people, be nice, pray and maybe you'll end up in heaven.

The Muslim Cause...shoot I better go to my Muslim Cause meeting tonight, I guess I missed too many and am behind.

"Muslims and Islamists hate Western culture. They hate everything about America. Their cause and mission is to see to it that Americans are hurt, maimed and abolished. If you don't think that for a minute you are more ignorant than I thought."

No you are definitley the more ignorant one here.

You know what my reaction to that paragraph, especially the first two sentences.

OMG he is soooo stupid. LOLOLOLOLOL, lmao rofl.

Muslims hate America, yeah!!! We hate it!!! It's awful. We hate freedom. Freedom is phooey. yuck freedom. blaaagh.

It's ridiculous when people like you hide your prejudices by putting up the "politically correct" argument.

It's not political correctness, it's just plain wrong. It is wrong to go after a group of people that are not guilty of any crime, except if belonging to that group is illegal.

I am a Muslim. Want to educate me on how I hate America? Everyone I'm related to is Muslim, explain to me how they all hate America.

I'm sunni, my girlfriend is Shite, closest best friends are shites too. Want to let us in on the Muslim mission and cause, Mr. non-Muslim?

How is it that all these non-Muslims know about the secret Muslim cause and mission, but none of us Muslims know? Is it secret from the Muslims?

"The more information that comes out, the more it seems that this guy may have been a home grown domestic terrorist. This guy had online postings praising terrorism. The guy was heard on many occassions that Muslims should stand up and fight the aggressor and to Shout Allah Akbar right before he started shooting is not out of the ordinary?"

Oh he's a home grown demostic terrorist. How long has he been planning this attack? ever since ROTC?

Ever since 9/11? Since the start of the wars? Or since he got orders that he was going to be sent there?

    http://www.scribd.com/NidalHasan

There's the link to the thing you are saying are the words where he's "praising terrorism".

What I read is a man debating whether something that is labeled "suicide bombing" is technically "suicide".

Seems to me an American militaryman, who is also a Muslim and a psychiatrist, debating with another person about a paper they wrote on Martyrdom in Islam.

Sounds to me, Hasan is saying that suicide bombing is a strategy, much like kamikazes, and therefore don't qualify as suicides, because suicides are considered to be done out of depression or despair, not for military achievments.

Sounds to me like a discussion I've had with friends and teachers. See the mistake here was he did while being Muslim.

That's the problem, Muslims are not allowed to discuss things that can be distorted to sound evil.

What...Muslim man said something about suicide bombing...he's a terrorist!!!! He's praising terrorism!!!!

uh no, he's saying technically suicide bombing isn't really the same as traditional "suicide", because of its military, political and religious motives.

That point of view is debatable, but it is definitley not praising terrorism.

    How blind can one be?

I am sick and tired of people sticking their necks out for these thugs & terrorists time after time. What are we so afraid of? Who are we afraid to offend? The families of the dead?
We need to come down from this too politically correct utopia or these types of domestic terrorists acts will continue.
