Dear Mrs Warner, thank you for the previous letter to start the search for who I thought
was my son. He is not my son. I have the facts on Daphney Armstrong’s
death . You may have seen the news report in the Southern News this
morning which is a lot of lies. I rang up the editorial and gave them
the facts as I am giving you now. I hope to force them to retract that
lying story. Daphney wasn’t arrested from Woolloongabba because she was
nowhere near the Gabba. She was not arrested for being drunk in public
either like Channel ten had it on Tuesday evening. She was arrested by
West End police on Monday between 11 – 11:30 am for being unlawfully on
private property. They removed her from under the house. It is 22
O’connell St, West End where she was arrested from. She did not have
Anywhere to live because she refused to pay rent, so nobody would give
Her accommodation. She slept under houses, in doorways, in the park,
On the river front etc. Everybody knew Daphne. She did not have an
epileptic fit either but a bad heart which was diagnosed approximately
a year ago when she gave up on life. On occasions when she camped under
the house, she would steal the toilet paper from all the toilets and
anything that she could carry in her two bags with her personal
possessions. In general, she always drank metholated spirits, but if
she couldn’t get that, she drank what she could get. She was discovered
under the house on Monday morning conscious but unable to walk all
covered in fecies. Three different tenants tri9ed to move her but she
was a dead weight. A former boyfriend of hers who is a white man
lives in her old flat in 22. He sometimes encouraged her around at
night for drinking sessions while he supplied the metho, they would
then procreate and she would leave. She was evicted several years
ago because she was a month out of rent, she lost her key and
brought some Aborigines around who smashed the door in to let her in.
That was $200.00 damages. With back rent plus gas and electricity
she owed approximately $700.00 and the story that she spread around
about losing $200.00 bond is lies because there is no bond on these
flats, only when they move in, they must pay three weeks rent like on
Housing Commission apartments. She was one person that everybody gave
up on because she wouldn’t help herself. The police from West End
arrested her, they carried her out one on each arm. She was taken to
the City Watch house but that night, a detective came with a message
that she passed away in the back of the peddy wagon while being
transferred to hospital. She made a mass in her cell with fecies and
spewed all over the floor being violently ill before they decided to
transfer her to hospital. Next morning, Tuesday, the detective who
came on Monday night came to get a statement of Kevin who was the
boyfriend and who incidentally brought the police to move her. They
took a statement from him and besides telling us that the autopsy
would be done that day, it was it. I ranf channel 9 and gave this
same story just as the reporter who investigated her death came in
from the mortuary from Royal Brisbane Hospital. He told me that the
autopsy was finished and it showed that she died from a bad heart.
Channel 9 did not run the report but Channel 10 did. I don’t see
why they should make such a fuss about her when she was already on
her way out. These are the true facts into the circumstances of the
death of Daphney Armstrong.
