Everyone's heard of hairless cats. There's also hairless dogs, and even hairless rats. But hairless...bears?
At the local zoo in Leipzig, Germany a family of three South American bears who once were covered in thick black coats are now almost completely bald and practically unrecognizable for being bears.
Experts haven't come to a final conclusion as to why these bears are balding but some believe it could be based on this family of bears' genetics.
However, this hasn't been the first time. Zoos all across Europe and abroad have kept this same species of bears which also developed similar symptoms--a clue which suggests this hair loss is because of climate and diet changes.
With winter steadily approaching, the Leipzig bears' hair loss isn't getting any better. Normally at this time they would be developing thicker coats to prepare for the biting cold. Instead, their skin is irritated with lesions.
