14 Year Old Arrested For Raping & Murdering 4 Year Old Boy
14 year old Raul Renato Castro of Mendota, California invited 4 year old Alex Mercato over to his apartment telling him he had "something to show him". They were alone in the apartment when Castro took him into the bathroom and raped him...
Afterwards, Mercato tripped on the carpet and hit his head on the tub. He started crying and told Castro he was going to tell his mother. Castro then filled the tub with enough water to hold his head underwater and drowned him... He then stuffed his body in the clothes dryer to hide him.
Meanwhile Mercato's parents realizing he was missing called the police - it wasn't until the next morning that his body was found stuffed in the dryer...
California law makes 14 year olds ineligible for the death penalty or life without possibility of parole - if convicted - the most Castro can receive is 32 years plus 15 years for the rape...
