A student of Engineering in Jadavpur University was stalked by her assailant who knifed her and ran away. The girl of Shillong had rejected the advances of the boy and he tried to take revenge on being spurned. The boy walked up to the second floor of the eight floor high college campus and stabbed her. The 50-acre sprawling campus of the University, founded in 1955, had never witnessed such an incident earlier and the staff and students are shell shocked. There are five entrances to the campus from different directions and the number of security men is inadequate. Moreover, local resident use the campus for taking shortcuts to their localities – hence, it is practically impossible to control outsiders from entering and creating trouble.
