10 Gruesome Murders Keep Killer from Bond

One of the most ruthless murderers Cleveland, Ohio has seen in years was denied bond after the judge assigned to the case described what he had already heard as “unbelievably gruesome and remorseless”. The man behind the murders, Anthony SowellAnthony Sowell will now be known by his cellmates as a rapist and mass murderer after investigators recovered ten bodies inside as well as outside of this deranged man’s home.

Officials are reporting that Mr. Sowell targeted African American women, usually raping then killing them by strangulation and burying them around his house. Officers discovered the skull of one woman wrapped in a paper bag and stuffed into a bucket in Sowell's basement, showing police that he was either careless or didn’t care about being caught. It clear that Sowell has been performing his “craft” for an extended period of time as one or more of the bodies recovered were extremely decomposed and perhaps raise more questions than answer them.

Officials have yet to release the names of the victims that tragically lost their lives to this maniac, but most don’t expect a list to be released until every square inch of the house is searched. Mr. Sowell was arrested and charged with five counts of aggravated murder, rape, felonious assault and kidnapping. Perhaps one of the most interesting details about this story is Sowell’s background, which consists of years in the military as a marine. Since leaving the military, his life has gone down the toilet as police described him as a “scrapper” who walks around picking up old or used scrap metal and selling it for minimal money. Sowell also has a heart condition that has forced him to wear a pace maker. Whether any of these details are sufficient or worthwhile will not be known until Anthony Sowell decides to talk.

Police are not dismissing the possibility of finding more bodies as they plan to spend the next several days ripping down walls and tearing up floors in search of more bodies. It is unclear at this time what led Sowell to commit such heinous crimes against these innocent women. I have spent a significant amount of my Wednesday night’s watching the television show Criminal Minds and seeing the countless mass murders that make up the weekly plots of the show. After finishing the riveting episodes, I generally make a comment to myself how lucky we are to not see such violence or killers rooming our streets like the one’s the show portrays. However, it appears that these deranged psychopaths clearly are lurking or hiding in our neighborhoods and people need to be aware and on the look out.
