Mikailah Chartier Seattle Miss Jr Pre Teen

Pioneer student, Mikailah Chartier, wins title with help from the community.

The Chartier family would like to thank the following Shelton businesses and friends : Cooper Studios, Heritage Bank, Route 66 Diner, Blooms by the Park, Godfather’s Pizza, Three 60’s skate shop, Farmers Insurance, Lee Stilwell Agency, Rhonda Mayner, Allen Finley, Korina Kallberg, Kristie Anderson, Cindy Anderson, Robin Cross, Courtney Johnson, David Putvin, Naomi Vargas-Peck, Tia Chartier, and John and Janet Chartier. Without your support, Mikailah would not have been able to compete and bring home to Shelton the title of Nationals Seattle Miss Jr. Pre-Teen 2009.

Being able to stand on a stage with bright lights in your eyes and speaking in front of a thousand people takes courage and self-confidence. Mikailah Chartier showed these qualities when she answered the final top 10 pop question clearly and without hesitation. Imagine what she will accomplish in her future endeavors if she has done this well by the age of 8.

“I was really surprised to learn there was a big difference in types of pageants out there.” States Mark Chartier, Mikailah’s father. “I thought it was going to be like you see on the T.V., but it was nothing like that.”

Natural pageants, like Nationals, place the focus on the individual’s ability to communicate effectively and the personality of the contestant. First, one must be nominated then pass an initial one on one interview with the judges before being accepted as a contestant. The judges are looking for explanatory answers and the ability to speak effectively when put on the spot.

Once accepted, the young ladies attend rehearsals and training classes so they understand what the judges will be looking for in a winner. It is explained that points are deducted for inappropriate attire and excessive makeup.

Sponsorship is vital and a tax deductible business expense. Mikailah needs to raise $3,000 in advertising and personal sponsorships in order to represent Shelton and the city of Seattle on the national level by attending the Cities of America Pageant in Orlando Florida this December. A special account has been set up with Our Community Credit Union under Mikailah Chartier Deadline for a contribution is Nov 18. All money will be going to pay for her expenses and additional training classes. Credit cards accepted by calling Nationals directly @ 1-800-569-2487 contestant number 27122.
