Abdullah Refuses To Accept Stolen Election

Pesky Abdullah

By Robert Weller

All right already. The Obama Administration and its allies have decided the Afghan election thing is over.

Sure we know President Hamid Karzai stole it, and only agreed to hold a runoff because he would use the same staff to steal it again.

Abullah dropped it rather than face deja vu.

So why won’t he shut up like Al Gore did in 2000. That certainly worked out well for the U.S. Bankruptcy, terror, declining medical and educational standards, much of the world grew to hate us.

Abdullah said Monday that the Independent (Karzai-appointed) Election Commission’s declaration of a Karzai victory for a second term was illegal.

"This decision does not have any legal basis and a government which takes power based on such a commission's decision cannot have legitimacy," Abdullah said on Wednesday in his first public appearance since the announcement.

"Such a government which lacks legitimacy cannot fight corruption. A government which comes to power without the people's support cannot fight phenomena of terrorism threats, unemployment, poverty and hundreds of other problems,” Al Jazeera reported him saying. I hope he doesn’t pop up on the stage like Kanye West and try to get sworn in.

Karzai’s position was no surprise. But President Obama three weeks ago wanted him out because of the widespread corruption he tolerated and failure to advance the nation in the past eight years.

Apparently Karzai and Abdullah didn't even meet in the last few days before the scheduled runoff. Perhaps those who want to bring them into a power-sharing arrangement should try Alexander the Great's solution. Have one of them marry the other's daughter. Voila! Happy days are here again.

I am not sure what Abdullah thinks he is up to. We should remember that many of his votes turned out to be fraudulent as well. Even if the election were fair there is every reason to doubt that he would win and if he did win by some miracle or machinations the Pashtuns would probably revolt. Perhaps he is just trying to get a better offer to join the government. After all he served in a Karzai govt. before. No doubt western officials wish he would just shut up instead of making things worse. The squeaky wheel after all could get thrown in the garbage dump!

Yea, I'd say Karzai stole it fair and square. Hate the game, not the player.
