A new study from London researchers is showing that a diet heavy in processed foods may have a link to depression, while a food rich in vegetables, fruit, and fish may help prevent the onset of depression.
The first group ate mainly meat, processed foods, desserts, and high-fat dairy. The second group ate mainly fruit, vegetables, and fish.
Those who ate the healthy diet were 26% less likely to develop depression. Those who ate the processed food diet were 58% more likely to develop depression.
The experts suggest that the antioxidants and high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the healthy food diet may help protect the brain and ward off depression.
