I just spent the last day intermittently looking at a Facebook poll arguing the existence of Unicorns.
There are a lot of people out there who believe in Unicorns. In fact, 52% of the people who took the poll believe in Unicorns as opposed to the other 48% who don't.
I do not believe in Unicorns because there is no evidence of their existence. Those like me need proof of such things. The Unicornists would then ask the unbelievers for proof that Unicorns didn't exist.
That got me thinking.
If there is absolutely no evidence of the existence of Unicorns (or anything for that matter), then there is no scientific way to disprove their existence. Other than saying, "no, Unicorns do not exist."
But then those clever Unicornists turn around and say, "well, that's because Unicorns want you to believe in them without having to give you proof. This proves to the Unicorns that you really have faith."
At the same time, the Unicornists offer evidence:
● Written doctrines--by Unicornists--describing the lives and times of Unicorns
● Testimonies of unbelievers turned Unicornists who were "visited" by individual Unicorns. (Most of these born-agains have a history of drug abuse.)
● Unicorns suddenly appearing on walls and burnt toast
● Statues of Unicorns which cry "blood"
Well, who can compete with that?
I really don't mind these believers or their beliefs. However, I just don't think people should use their belief in Unicorns as reason to war on those who believe in--well--dragons for example (who also do not have proof). I wish more people out there were like us unbelievers. I was frankly sad to see 52% of those pollers believing in Unicorns.
Oh, and if it wasn't apparent, replace 'Unicorns' with "God."
