Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has her feet in two boats – one is in New Delhi as Railway Minister and the other in West Bengal as the tormentor-in-chief of the CPM led left front Government. When her Trinamul Congress won in the Lok Sabha elections, she had announced that her party would never go in for bandhs or road blockages. But, suddenly, she has change her stance – she now says that she would express her profound apologies to the electorate and then go in for bandh to ‘teach the Marxists a lesson’. Right now, her cadres are engaged in battles practically every day to prove their strengths – there is no account of the dead or injured because such violent agitations are never referred to the police officially or are recorded in police stations as FIR unless it suits them. The wounded are taken care of separately by their own people. She wants the Central Government to dismiss the Buddhadev Bhattacharya led State Government and call for fresh mandate from the people but the center is in no mood to oblige. So, she expects to return in the elections with a thumping majority and grab West Bengal. But, will that solve the problems of the state? Would it not be a simple case of role reversal? With her party in power, the left forces would do just what she is doing today – unleash a reign of terror and anarchy that will affect the common man.
