Former French President Jacques Chirac arrives at his office in Paris

A judge ordered Friday to refer former French president Jacques Chirac to trial on suspicion of involvement in the granting of fake jobs to political allies in the municipality of Paris when he was mayor from 1977 to 1995

The prosecution had demanded the authority to stop the case, but the judge Aksviri Simeone, decided to submit Chirac to justice on charges of misuse of public funds and breach of trust.

The French judiciary was investigating claims that close to Chirac had obtained a fake jobs and received salaries from the municipality of Paris, although they did not work out.

Chirac's office has announced that he is ready to respond to those allegations and prove that the posts were real and not illusory
