Solar Lamps

There are 1.5 BILLION people around the world who live without Electricity...

The rest of us live in a world where the technology we have available to us is absolutely mind blowing. Now a researcher has come up with a very simple idea that will provide "solar" powered lights at 25% of the cost of what they're now paying for non-electrical powered lighting...

Using sheets of Photovoltaic cells (something that's not "new" but because of that - it's not very expensive) Frederick Krebs, a Dutch Researcher is the first person to embed the sheets with LED's - which when they're rolled up, produce light comparable to a lamp (see picture...)

The lights charge up, run all night and last for a year. He's been able to bring the cost of each lamp down from $27 to $7 and he's working on ways to drop that even lower... (which is important when you're trying to help solve the problems of people who are already living in poverty...)

Solar power is actually good. It is cheaper and it is eco-friendly as well.
