The City of Fernley's Annual Safe & Spooktacular Trick or Treat, held in partnership with the Fernley Arts & Culture Commission, City of Fernley Parks Department, Lyon County Library and Lyon County Sheriff, the Volunteer in Policing program and local businesses, was a huge success. The third annual event sponsored and coordinated by the City of Fernley attracted over 3600 trick-or-treaters. Local businesses and service organizations handed out well over 30,000 pieces of candy to Fernley children and their families. This event ensures a safe Halloween experience for children in our community by converting City Hall and the Lyon County Complex into a Halloween extravaganza. The event featured the VIP's annual haunted house, a giant bounce house at the Fernley Library, a Fortune Teller, ghosts and goblins galore, decorations and face painting by the Fernley Arts & Culture Commission, creepy cemetery photos by Norton photography and Richard Booth, City Council hosts Kelly Malloy, Robert Chase, Curt Chaffin and Cal Eilrich dressed in costume and, of course goodies, tricks and treats given our by community organizations and volunteers!
So many people contributed to the tremendous success of the event (as evidenced by the turnout). The Arts & Culture Commission and City of Fernley would like to thank the following corporate sponsors, service organizations, and volunteers: City Council, City Parks, City Attorney’s Office, Public Works and Community Development departments, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Fernley Library, Lyon County Human Services and Parks, North Lyon County Fire Protection District, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Nevada Energy, Amazon.Com, Charter Communications, Wallace True Value, Wade Development, Trash Pros, Lattin Farms, Curves, Relentless Martial Arts, Fernley Chamber of Commerce, Fernley Rotary and Compass. We had volunteers from the Arts & Culture Commission, Planning Commission, Mayor’s Citizen Action Team, Truckee Meadows Community College Circle K Club, Fernley Youth Theater, and many resident volunteers who just love Halloween and wanted to help provide a safe and wonderful community event for Fernley families.
