Just outside the new $1 Billion stadium that Jerry JonesJerry Jones built for his Cowboys (try and keep up with the Joneses...impossible), located on a 6-acre tract of land called "Richard Greene Park," a re-dedication took place on October 23 2009 of which the people of Arlington, Texas should take note.
It's been called "the Texas Stonehenge" - 22 pink granite stones called "Caelum Moor" - sculpted by a man named Norm Hines and, in days gone by, Wiccans and neo-Pagans admitted to gathering around them for rituals and ceremonies, that is, until it was dismantled and removed from its previous site back in 1997 while then-Mayor Greene was at the helm.
The issue took on the atmosphere of a circus back then with 19 Arlington churches faced off against the town's witches claiming that, because taxpayer money was being used to keep the grounds, power the mood lighting and keep the fountains spraying, it had become a Church 'n State issue. Face it, when was the City going to start tending the grounds of the local churches, temples and mosques on taxpayer money? Finally, a self-proclaimed High Priestess calling herself "Lady Phoenix" admitted that, just as the Christians claimed, the Wiccans and neo-Pagan-types WERE using the place for ceremonies.
Newspapers including the LA Times, TV stations and metroplex radio stations carried the story. S TV program called "Strange Universe" made light of the issue and, when CNN threatened to cover the story, Arlington's City Council decided this was NOT what they wanted their family-friendly city to be known for so they made up their own minds to disassemble the giant rocks and place them in mothballs.
Now, a million dollars later, and over $900K in taxpayer money used for irrigation, signage, trails, fountains, lights, etc., here they are again, twelve years later, located right between the Cowboys and the Texas Rangers ball parks.
I was part of that conglomeration of churches who protested against using taxpayer money to fund Caelum Moor. I've followed as, through the years, various groups have attempted to buy the stones but, for various reasons, changed their minds.
Last Friday, October 23rd, I received an eMaill from a Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter named Bud Kennedy who asked that I call him regarding Caelum Moor. When I called, He said he was on the way to "the dedication" and would have to call me later. After we hung up, I had to wonder if "the dedication" he referred to could possibly have referred to Caelum moor.
It had. What a incredible coincidence for I had just launched a broadcast to my online subscribers THAT MORNING in regard to the latest I had heard about Caelum Moor, nothing of which had anything to do with a re-dedication ceremony. I Googled, searched the Arlington Parks and Rec calendar...I found nothing. So, I waited to hear back from Bud.
Over the next 24 hours, I received 4 eMails and three phone calls from Bud. The article in Sunday's paper - just in time for Halloween - was predictable: A few celtic spellings, some ribbing aimed at fundamental Christians, a few twisted phrases, a B-grade article at best. Nothing about the Church and State issue.
These days, if you are bored enough to Google "Tummillo+Caelum Moor,"you can see for yourself how many folks - witches AND Christians- have jumped on Bud's bandwagon, taking his article as "gospel truth," and are making sport of yours truly, a feeding frenzy mostly feeding on one another's lies and presuppositions.
Whatever. I can take it.
What saddens me about this subject is how few are recognizing the Church and State issue - the very thing that got the stones removed in the first place as - once again, complacent Americans sit back and allow government at any level to do as they wish with our taxpayer cash.
Yes, I notified nearly every minister in Arlington via eMail with no response. I also notified every Hindu, Muslim and Jewish leader whose eMail address I could locate.
Several Christians contacted me, one quite upset that her fellow Churchians were apathetic. I reminded her, all it takes is one.
Let me make several things clear: Those stones are not, in and of themselves, evil. They are not talismans. God made them. Like Satan himself, created things only have the power we ascribe to them.
As far as witches and pagans go, God loves them and sent Jesus to die for them. Truth is, I admire that anybody desires to express worship at all. I would suggest you consider the words of scripture admonishing us to 'worship the Creator, NOT the created.'
How 'bout them Cowboys? Don't worry, fans. There's no curse on our Cowboys.
If you pay taxes in Arlington - yourself included, Mr. Jones - and later learn that people were having rituals outside the Cowboy Palace in the dark on your dime - you should get very, very angry.
