The USS New York is a unique US Navy assault naval vessel - a portion of its hull has been forged out of 7.5 tons of steel that was retrieved from the debris of the Twin Towers which crumbled on the 9th of September 2001 when terrorists hijacked two passenger aeroplanes and crashed into the World Trade Center. Thousands of relatives and near and dear ones of those killed in the terror strike had gathered to have a look at the ship as it came into New York harbor. Incidentally, two more ships the Arlington and the Somerset are under construction. These will incorporate material from the Pentagon which was struck by another airliner and from the United Flight 93 which crashed into a field after being hijacked.
