Giant jellyfish sinks a Jap trawler

Tōkyō : Japan | about 1 month ago
Views: 200

Nomura’s jellyfish can be huge creatures and weigh upto 200 kilograms with diameters of upto 2 meters – which means miniature giants. A Japanese fishing trawler landed a huge catch of these fishes in their net and the boat capsized as they were trying to lift the enormous load. Such extraordinary jelly fishes had been seen in the waters of Japan in 2005 – the results were damaged nets, inedible fish and even injuries to fishermen. Incidentally, last year there were practically no sightings of these jellyfish. In the opinion of experts, the jelly fish are becoming more frequent visitors because there are fewer predators around like sea turtles and lager fishes.
