Public Option

What started out as a random banter from my brother in law, turned into an almost intense situation. He is a staunch republican, an ex army man and a citizen of the U.S. I on the other hand am a Democrat, a mom, grandmother and also a U.S. citizen.

Below is a copy of our conversation;

My B.I.L.

We look at Washington today and we are seeing closed door meetings going on that are not in the best interest of this country. With these closed door meetings Washington is looking more like Cuba's dictatorial style of government than a government for the people by the people. The people got up and voiced how they felt about this and said," We do not want a Public Option! " So if the many say they don't want the "Public Option" why is Washington going with the minority than with the majority? The majority of Americans said it as loud as they could over the summer and the begging of fall (town hall meetings, "9/12 project 2 million people") and they are still saying it loud but Washington is not listing.
Someone show us this majority that want the "Public Option" and not just the President, Nancy PelosiNancy Pelosi, and the liberal left demarcates that just like to give hand outs and or take them. Because if you look at there numbers they are the minority. Americans are more conservative than Washington like to think. If you want to live how the Cubans live with a dictator go and live in Cuba and let Americans run America!

My response;

I am part of "the People" and I never once stood up and said I didnt want a public option, in fact. I am all for public health care. Your children receive a medical card do they not? That is not a hand out. It is our tax dollars at work. With public health care, all thats going to happen is that more people will receive health care and shareholders pockets wont be lined.

You will also need to remember that there is no more money to even pay for more people to get covered by the American people. I myself did not ask for the tax payers to pay for my kids but that is part of this incentives of having been a military member. Why should we ask the tax payers "the people" to pay for even more people that have not done anything for this country or even someone that is not even a citizen of this country. This could and would put our national debt over $1 trillion dollars. Were is this money going to come from? I will let you know and everyone else that this money will come out of our pockets, our children pockets, there children pockets, and so on. That is one hole that "we the people" should not put on the future. We should try to make the future a better place, to thrive, to be free, and to prosper how our four fathers wanted.
Why should we model our great heath care after countries that are barely even to keep there countries afloat like; Spain, Cuba, Canada, and the U.K. With these countries as well there people come to our country to get heath care because ours is the best in the world. If you were to live in any one of these countries and you were to get horrifically sick they would just let you die because it would cost there governments to much money to keep you alive. I would not want to live, or want my kids to live in a country like that. I would rather my children grow up in the country our four fathers wanted for my children in there new country called America. We the people need to open our eyes to see these radical changes that would damage and destroy the kind of country they wanted to give to us. We should not just take what Washington wants to give us but we should stand up and fight like the four fathers did ageist the King of England. Now the King is in Washington and is trying to control us the American people all over again. We were suppose to learn from history not repeat it.

My Responce;

Health care and insurance companies are making a fortune charging these same tax payers higher rates while lowering the quality and quantity of coverage. The ONLY reason they do this is the bottom line. All the companies care about is how much money they can turn over in profit and pay the stockholders and shareholders their money. Who cares if people are dying from it. If we had universal health care, more and more insurance companies will close down because "The people" will have spoken. The money to insure a family of four can cost well over 500 a month. That comes out of our pockets as the people who actually pay for that coverage. What is the difference if we pay an insurance company an exorbitant amount of money as a fee and get BS coverage, or pay a flat tax across the board to cover everyone and anyone who is a US citizen for their health care coverage? I AM one of these tax payers. I would be willing to pay a tax to get health care coverage, that I dont get now and I still have to pay taxes. Your children do not receive state assisted medical coverage because you were in the military, if that were the case, how do all the people who also get it, do so without having stepped foot in the military let alone even on a base? Your oldest child was born on medical assistance, you were not in the military when she was born. You did ask for that coverage. Why was it ok to get the as you call it free hand out when you needed it, but now that you seem to not need it, you are against it? You receive food stamp benefits, another government handout, to use your words. If you don't get them now, You have in the past. How can you condemn a system that worked just fine for you before?

I can tell you that people do NOT come to this country for the outstanding health care coverage. The come here for the outstanding health care itself. They pay for it, the ones who are here, now often times go to their country of origin to receive low cost health care. Ask Tabby, her mother is a native of Scotland, she goes back home when she needs serious coverage. She cant afford it here. The fees are way over priced. My neighbor Katherine is going to die, because she cant afford the medicine required to save her life, because the insurance company wont pay for it. Yet her husband pays over 300 a month for coverage, he is going to lose his wife anyway. She will die, period. Her medication is 2,000 a month, it is more then he makes. The reason the insurance company wont pay for it, is because it is not cost effective to the company. Why do all these people pay for health care coverage, if they cant get it?

Where can they get the money? The taxpayers who wont have to pay huge amounts for health coverage. I would much rather pay a tax to my government then pay an outrageous fee to line some stockholders pocket. It is a law that was enacted by the government , you support, to protect the shareholders and stockholders of a company.

The King is in America now? We are repeating the past? Yes we are, only the people who can afford coverage can get it. The rest of us are screwed. History has been repeating itself. You can only get ahead, if you already have the money to do so. We are American citizens. The man next to me is no more, nor no less important and worthy of life then I. It is ONE NATION under God, not One Nation as long as you can afford it.

We need to stand up as American citizens and fight for our rights a a whole, You did it as a US Army service man, you did not go to Iraq for a select few. You fought for us as a nation, now you fight against us as a Nation. The everyman for himself mentality.

Health-care control isn't the only problem in this country, it all comes down to money. How about we start boycotting insurance companies, shut a few of the bigger ones down, due to lack of business and then lets see if we even need National coverage.

The biggest thing that needs to be done if we do have National coverage is that you must be required to be an American citizen to receive it. I am not for Illegal aliens being allowed to benefit from citizen funded resources.

But why should we just accept what the government is doing and has done. We should just stand up and fight ageist any more government take over in this country. Then we can re-build this country back to the way we were viewed in the past by the people around the world as "a beacon of hope". A place where you can come too, to live the American dream. To have the freedoms of humanity, just to be treated as an American.
Why should we just lay down the towel and let someone tell us how we feel, and think? That is not the America I grew up knowing. That type of world is the one that I was glad I was living in America as a kid. I am still glad and proud of my country, it just scares me to see what this government is trying to hand down to us, our children, and the future.

Kev, this government has been allowing large corporations like the insurance companies to lobby for THEIR rights not ours. Now we have a few government officials who appear to not be threatened or intimidated by big business and are willing to finally do something that is actually good for the people. The "people" with financial backing have taken control of our lives and our futures, already. People cant even afford to live any more. America is a country of competitive people, now let them compete. We voice our opinions when it comes to things like cell phone service, so loudly that companies now compete for our business, they lower the prices and offer better service, by having a public option this will also make insurance companies vie for our business. They will have no alternatives but to increase quality of coverage, allow more covered options while lowering the cost of the premiums. In the end it is a win win situation for The American citizens. How can anyone oppose something that will be good for the people regardless. I am sorry that you oppose Democrats and their ideals, however for how many years has a republican been in charge and things got even worse? This isn't about whose side you are on as far as democracy, its whose side are you on as far as best for the people, if the government has to step in and take over to finally get things done, then what is wrong with that? We have a government for a reason, to be in charge of the best option for the people. A perfect world is called a Utopia, to be Utopian, we actually have no alternative but to take on some proverbial communistic ideals, Even playing ground for all. Utopia will never happen. People are greedy and want to hold status etc. This is ridiculous in my mind where a country is suppose to be one for all and all for one. One Nation under God. Thanks for posting my comments.
