Woman falls prey to aerial firing

A woman died at Jinnah Hospital on Sunday after she was hit by a stray bullet during aerial firing in a wedding function in Manak village in Raiwind city police precincts.

Haneefan Bibi, wife of Haji Liaqat Ali, was present in the marriage ceremony of her relative’s son Abid.

The police said that Abid’s fellows, including Intizaar and others, resorted to aerial firing to celebrate the function and a bullet hit the woman.

The accused and other family members fled after locking the house to avoid the arrest.

SHO Mazhar Iqbal said the police had registered a murder case against the suspects, including the bridegroom, on the complaint of Ghulam Murtaza. However, no arrest has been made as yet. The SHO said a separate case of aerial firing was also registered.

In another incident the Ghalib Market police have booked a bridegroom, his father and five others in an aerial firing case.

According to the FIR, Malik Nazar Hussain, his sons Irfan (bridegroom), Imran, Mustansar and relatives Imtiaz, Azhar Hussain and Muhammad Ejaz resorted to aerial firing outside their house in Nabipura on Saturday night.

The police, responding to an emergency call made by a local, rushed to the spot and seized empties.

In the meantime, the accused had left for the bride’s place near Qainchi Amar Sidhu on Ferozepur Road.

Meanwhile, a police team raided the house of Malik Nzaar and took three people into custody and launched hunt to arrest the seven suspects named in the FIR.

TORTURED: A man and his sons allegedly clubbed a 60-year-old man to death in Bahar Colony in Liaqatabad on Sunday.

The police said Younas’ family would use the rooftop of their neighbour Javed Iqbal to spread washed clothes and had frequent skirmishes.

On Sunday, Javed again objected to the use of his place by his neighbours as a result of which Younas and his sons started thrashing Javed with clubs. They fled leaving the elderly man unconscious and he died at the Lahore General Hospital.The police registered a case.

SLAIN: The Nishtar Colony police shifted the body of a 28-year-old man, who was found slain in fields near Asif Town No 2 on Sunday, for autopsy and identification to the city morgue.

The police suspected that unidentified people abducted the man, tortured him, stabbed him with a sharp-edged weapon and threw his body in the fields. Some peasants working in the rice crop spotted the body and informed the police.

SUICIDE: A 22-year-old woman allegedly perturbed by her protracted illness committed suicide at her husband’s house on Tajpura Road in Ghaziabad on Sunday.

The police said Sonia, wife of Nawaz, had been ill for a long time and could not recover despite repeated treatments.

She locked herself in the bathroom on Sunday, doused herself with kerosene oil and set herself ablaze. Later, the family took her to Mayo Hospital where she succumbed to her burns. The police handed the body to her family after necessary formalities.
